Are all 3rd Gen front bumpers the same?

Hey everyone,

Just curious if anyone knows if all the third gen front bumper covers are the same? Or do they differ slightly?

I have this vision for my 84 project, and I wanna get the gears rolling this week. Part of my plan is to swap the front and back bumpers as well as the ground effects to the 91-92 style.

I really like the look and shape of my 84 front bumper cover so as long as the 91-92 bumpers are the same of only slightly different I will go ahead with this plan. I can't seem to tell for myself. When I compare pictures, sometimes they look the same, and sometimes they don't.

I know they are interchangeable, but if someone could please tell me whether they are the exact same bumper or not, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

I believe the bumpers will bolt up but the ground effects for the 91-92 require the holes to be elongated.

Just my two cents, but I think you have the best looking bumper cover and Gfx of all third gens. 82-84 cars have sharper cornering on the bumper cover and a more primitive look to them that makes it stand out amongst the rest. The actual bumper will bolt up though, and any of it will work with just about any combination with a few very small modifications.

I dont think they are exact. They will bolt up but there is different styles and different bottom ground effects for the bottom/chin of the bumpers.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I know the bumper will bolt up, and I know the gfx are different. I was actually more worried about whether the actual 84 and 91-92 bumpers themselves (minus the gfx) are the exact same or not? I'm wondering if they are the same shape/dimensions? Like if you were to put an 84 style bumper cover side by side with a 91-92 style bumper cover, would they be the same of differ slightly?

So the 82-84 bumpers covers have sharper corners? I can't seem to tell when I compare pictures. That's what I was worried about though. I really like the look and shape of my current bumper cover and I would hate to lose that look when switching to the 91-92 bumper cover. I've been going back and forth on whether or not to keep the same bumper and gfx or go for new look.

So you're sure? 84 cover has sharper corners and 91-92 is rounder?

Re: Are all 3rd Gen front bumpers the same?

I've had both the 82-84 and 85-92 style covers on the front of my 92. They both bolt up the same to the car, and fit the same. The only difference is the way the chin spoiler mounts to the bumper cover and to the bottom of the front fenders. Not entirely sure about the rear covers, as I've only ever had the original 92 cover on mine, but I don't imagine there is too much of a difference. Possibly the rear quarter panel ground effects pieces may not line up right with the cover, but that's about it.

84 style differs vastly from the 91-92 banshee style. They may bolt up, and even fit, but appearance wise they look nothing alike. This is my 92.

Well, that would make more sense because it was the kind of question I see on the Facebook thirdgen pages, but rarely here. LOL I was kind of flabbergasted by it.... Thanks for clearing up.....
