Having a hard time figuring out what you are looking for.
The rub strip that goes down the side of the car on the crease? No metal in that.
The metal backing to the ground effects pieces?

Re: where to find moldings

Ok, the side mouldings or bump strips were on all third gens, including trans Ams. Many people like myself think they look better without them .
The factory strips are 1" plastic/rubber glued directly on the body line. They are painted body color and installed on top of body paint so they can be removed carefully and leave painted body.
I'm pretty sure there were never any factory mouldings with a metal support or only 1/4 " so yours are added on. If they really are riveted on, that sux.

Re: where to find moldings

He must have the aftermarket/dealer installed body side bang strip
moulding.

They rivet on a metal channel and insert a color keyed rubber/plastic
strip they cut from a roll of the stuff.
Seen it time and time again back in the daze of my auto dealer employment.
Usually done by a traveling installer who does everything from vin etching,
pinstripes, auto starts, etc.

Your best off tracking down one of these guys at your local dealer.

Early third gen factory body side moulding/bang strips were just stick on
rubber pieces.
My 84 has RPO B84 for black bodyside moulding
