Window trim
Hi,
I have 1986 camaro irocz LG4, in which the metal trim of the rear window has detached. Any suggestions in how to glue it or fix it back together is appreciated!
Thanks.

Re: Window trim
Hi
I'm NOT an expert but I currently have my 85 camaro rear hatch window on my deck with a similar problem. the trim was popped up on top as well as rusted somewhat- since I needed to take window out for body paint purposes (which i am not doing myself-I called a couple window repair shops and one said to use the permatex black stuff (my shop manual says to use urethane adhesive which principally only comes in a caulk gun tube and is pricy-also it says you need a professional caulk gun as the stuff does not come out easily they say. This is the stuff they use for windshield install I think.
So, after sanding and repainting the trim, and after cleaning out (as best as possible the trim "U channel". I looked up permatex stuff and found #81158 black and 66B clear which are silicone adhesives, not gasket sealer suff. I pulled back about 2 feet of the trim that came loose, used a dremel small wire brush inside the channel on parts and a small screwdriver to dig out the big stuff-I think i got a decent amount out (unless you remove the whole piece of trim you only have a couple of inches to attempt this clean out-I tried to put a 3/16 bead inside the channel (book says 3/16 but this was very difficult also as this stuff also does not come out easily and with tight conditions was hard to do-I used the clear 66B as others said black took longer to cure and was very messy.
After filling channel I tapped it back on carefully with a rubber hammer, ending on the top middle where it had popped up- still sitting on my deck and I haven't tugged on it but it appears it MAY have worked-good luck with what you do

Re: Window trim
I did look at the product reviews on that stuff too. As I recall they were not as favorable for holding power as the stuff i mentioned, but I'm not sure there is much stess on the trim

Re: Window trim
I imagine that the metal trim and glass of the window would expand and contract at different rates which might lead more to the separation of the two vs. the strength of the adhesive alone.
From that I would go with what a body shop would recommend.
