Water leak Help?!
Water leak Help?!
My 84 Transam the valley where the wiper is install into, where the fresh air enters through the cowl is badly rusted. Has anyone any ideas on how to repair or block this area? I would prefer to fix it but I am willing to block it as long as my car does not leak

I don't think there are to many options here, at least that I can think of.
Band-aid - clean out the cowl (valley) of anything in the way...grills, wipers, debris, and probably the hood...then reach in by hand and apply some sort of rust blocking paint (like a POR15), then a heavy sealer, like a seam sealer to fill the holes.
Proper repair - get a donor panel, cut the old out, weld the new in. Approach it from the underside, which is the interior of the car with the dash removed.

Also, be patient. You're not always gonna get an answer right away, even after a few days sometimes.People don't live on the forum waiting for someone to ask questions.
Dave's advice is what I would've suggested & being that the underside of the cowl area is the interior.I would probably go with POR-15.Seeing as welding in a patch panel would necessitate gutting your dash area or risk a fire.

POR-15 also makes a putty. Depending on how bad it is, and if you can reach in far enough to get to it, you could clean the area, paint it with POR-15, then fill with the putty, then top coat with POR-15 paint again.
This is an ugly place for rust. No quick and easy answers, I'm afraid.

Hey Don, not every question gets answered BUT I know that the most knowledgeable 3rd gen owners are on this site and they are good folks who are a great help. A wealth of knowledge is here. You will draw more flies with honey than with vinegar...

I apologize for my impatience and thanks a lot for your reply. I was feeling very helpless when I discovered this problem. My car is gutted and I think I will try to repair it. The donor car option sounds good. Thanks again.
