how many different types of rear spoilers did the 3rd gen have?
Just curious as to the many types of spoilers I have seen cruising around. Mine looks more like a wing than the usual one that looks kinda like a lip that protrudes up. It was on an 88' V6.
Re: how many different types of rear spoilers did the 3rd gen have?
The base model Camaro Sport Coupe in 1988 sometimes got a stubby wing, some got the normal lip spoiler.
There are two different lip spoilers, with and without a third brake light, and the 91-92 Z28 tall wing.

That Was A One Year Only Spoiler Used On The 1988 Sport Coupe.

If we include 'maro and 'bird, and don't consider the third brakelight, then there were 6 designs total: the common 'maro, the '88 'maro, and the '91-'92 Z28, the common 'bird, the '85-'90 aggressive 'bird, and the '91-'92 Trans Am.

I wonder why the 88 is a one-off. Is it ugly? I like it actually.

They actually only made it for half a year and stopped production because...
From the "Tech Data" page here on this site for the "88" Camaro Sport Coup.
"Early in the year, 1988 Chevy Camaro -Sport Coupes came with a `shorty' rear wing rather than a spoiler. This ungainly addition was discontinued and replaced with the standard spoiler midyear."(I doubt that "GM" ever used the word "ungainly")
I needed to replace my entire rear hatch and bought the one with the "short wing".
Although some here do not care for it, I like it better than the other choices.

My Berlinetta came with a flat spoiler similar to what the Firebird came with. Was never sure if it was added later or from the factory that way. (Orig owner but repainted.)
Anyway, don't forget the convertible spoilers too.

Can anyone decipher the different ride each one exhibits?
Like does one cut through the air easier? Maybe one makes smoother quieter air? And then one provides maximum downforce?

Don't forget that convertibles had a different spoiler as well.

Most people never notice but I wanted to point out the 82-86 and 91-92 3 piece Camaro spoilers are noticebly smaller than the 87-90 3 piece Camaro spoiler.

There is also an actual stand off spoiler that some early models could get. I'm trying to locate it now, some of the members here have them on their cars.
