Re: when someone calls your car a p.o.s...

My car gets the most attention from 10 year old kids and 40-50 year old men who had one when they were new.

My car rarely ever gets any bad comments even when it did look like a pos a few years ago. The closest I get is "It doesn't have a 350? Oh.. thats too bad".

Re: when someone calls your car a p.o.s...

Honestly I have rarely ever gotten any negative comments other than " oh its got a 305." Most people my age and a lil older like it and always comment on having one or wanting one back in the day, or comment on how rare the nicer ones are getting. Everyone has their preference, I actually do not like any Camaro built after 92 but I appreciate they are light years ahead in performance since the debut of the LT1 so I don't go around calling them POS.. maybe ugly though..LOL

Re: when someone calls your car a p.o.s...

I've never had any negative comments and most people under the age of 60 ask a lot of questions. I've had some interest in buying my car but I've never asked them to make an offer as I know it will be some low ball offer and besides I have no plan to ever part with my car. People in my area must have never owned or seen a TPI third gen because they will always start off by proclaiming that I must have added that engine to my car, I just smile and fill them in. They also can't seem to wrap their minds around the idea of someone owning a car and not driving the doors off of it. "Why don't you drive it?" Where I live there will be 20 Corvettes, 20 Mustangs of all ages and numerous 5th gen Camaros at car shows, but mine is always the sole third gen. It gets plenty of love!

What the non-informed critic of these cars refuses to understand is just how easily modifiable, fun-driving, past re-living machines these are compared to...uh.. a Dodge Daytona or something like that from the same era.

I think we will see the values and respect start creeping up as the Gen X's start to retire with $$$ and want to have that 1989 TTA or that 1988 IROC Z28.

My car has the same clear coat issue as many do I'm sure. But, when the paint was awesome back when I got it in 1993, some restaurant valet's would park it up front. That was pretty damn cool. The only people that call my car a P.O.S. now are some relatives insisting that I get rid of it and buy a new one. So I respond in kind for them to fork over the cash for a new Camaro and they quickly shut up.

You know, I have to recant on that statement. My father walks by it and cant say POS fast enough...LOL He's somewhat of a comical, grumbly old fart though. I jut smile when he does that because every time he does he is comparing it to some old car he used to have when he was young. He used to sell these and older cars off the new lots since around 1972. I get tickled when he compares it to " My ole green 1954 Chevrolet would blow the doors off of it son"....

That's funny Don my dad kept telling me that and my slightly modded 87 GTA outran his 69 SS Chevelle after he kept telling me the same thing. Now if he had had drag radials.. it wouldn't have happened.

I don't know about that - my 1987 IROC is a legitimate mid 14 second car in stock trim while my 1971 GT-37 is a mid-high 12 second car in Pure Stock trim. The only unfortunate thing with either of those is me who's currently only a low 13 second driver.

My GTA ran 13s.Nothing really fast. Im sure the Chevelle would turn low 13s or maybe in the 12s if it had traction which it didn't. We will never know because its a 50k stock show car and will not be put on a track ever. But on the street the torque just shredded the tires and the lil 300HP GTA ran away.

Re: when someone calls your car a p.o.s...

I always find it funny when someone points out some little imperfection on my '68 Camaro show car, a car I spent 7 years restoring back to factory original. What I usually say is, let's go look at your car because I'd like to see a perfect car today. I find most don't have a car in the show. I've been around hot cars for a long time guys, and I've found true car guys will never insult you (just the know nothings). RonM

I never insult a car guy. But I cant acknowledge a foreign car though. But again I wont insult them either.

We all have our favorite cars and others we like but not drooling over. Either way the owners of these cars deserve praise for keeping them going and cared for so others can enjoy.

That sounds extremely optimistic...even with a 455.
