Hey, any ideas how to reset the odometer on a speedometer? Or where I can get a new speedo for a 1988 Camaro with 00000 on the odometer? I hate to run a new motor and have a mileage on the speedo.
Your best bet is to remove the tumbler, disassemble it, and carefully reassemble it at 00000. Rolling it back won't work. Then you need to put a declaration sticker on your drivers door stating that the odometer has been modified, and listing the current and new readings. Check your state laws for the particulars.

It's a violation of federal law to modify your speedo. Just because your car has a new motor doesn't mean that the rest of the car doesn't still have those miles on it.

THE ONLY time that I know of to actually mess with the Odometer that it MIGHT be legal would be if you changed Speedometers, then you might have to. I adjusted my odometer to the correct milage when I changed speedos because my orginal TRIP Odometer was malfunctioning & was un repairable from wear. So I changed Odometers too (corected though).
