Missing hold open link on drivers door
Missing hold open link on drivers door
hello. I have an 87 iroc-z . I have a sagging drivers door, and I bought the kit to replace the pin, spring, bushings, etc...to fix the issue. Brought it to a shop and they told me I'm missing the hold open link. I've tried to find just that part, but no luck. I've also searched for a whole hinge with all of those parts, but the ones I've found don't say that they'll fit my car. They are vague and say chevy, Pontiac, Buick, but not the years they fit... any suggestions?

There are some nice sharp photos of the hinge parts in this older thread (https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...open-link.html Sadly there's no resolution...
The big problem is that in practice the link is a permanent part of the hinge half, which is permanently welded to the door. You can get a reproduction hinge half from Classic Industries (http://www.classicindustries.com/pro.../12525126.html) or whichever vendor you choose to be "crystal-skulled" by, for about a $100. Then it's just a matter of getting the existing hinge half parted from the door, and bolt, weld, voodoo magic the new piece in exactly the right place...
I think before I tried to change the entire hinge half, and gleefully butcher the door, I'd probably try to find just the link on a junkyard donor, or even hack one out of a scrap of mild steel, file and Dremel to perfection, harden with the torch, and machine a new pivot pin, then stake it in place...
Either way it's going to suck. There's probably some kind of compromise somewhere in the middle, might have to get a little crafty to work out a solution you're comfortable with.

Sounds like either way is going to be no fun. I think I'll try to get that half hinge from the place you suggested. Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it!
