Hood hydraulics
So my hood is a piece of work... Fiberglass, crack on one rear corner, same corner missing the hydraulic arm. I'd LOVE for this hood to just stay open without using the retarded piece of wood I've had to use. What have y'all done to remedy this?

Re: Hood hydraulics
Pictures would help but sounds like you might have to rig up something to use the factory hood struts. Maybe buy a factory hood off craigslist

Re: Hood hydraulics
Missing hydraulic on this side. Wondering if I should replace or look into a different system.
Since it's missing, the hood has developed a split due to not being lifted correctly.
Has anyone ever used those spiral springs on their hoods?

If I found a pair of those springs, wonder how much it'd take to retrofit them into place.

Re: Hood hydraulics
If you cant find a NOS set for that hood, Buy a set of worn out hood struts for a steel hood. from junk yard or someone on here parting a car.

Ok, NOS is "New Old Stock, correct?
I found a shock that matched, but it isn't strong enough AT ALL... bummer.

Re: Hood hydraulics
Like someone already said, good set of worn out steel hood shocks might work. Trouble is most trash them or do what I do and trade them in for a new set (I buy the lifetime warranty Strong Arms where all you have to do is bring your old ones in and you get a new set no questions asked) Another thing you can do is try to order hood shocks for a car that came with a fiberglass hood such as the 82 Camaro Pace Car and I'm sure there are others. Your hood looks like it broke from having too strong of a hood shock.

With a broken hood, using any new strut will only further the damage, IMO.
You might be able to get away with something like this, used with a worn out strut:

It's better than carrying around a 2x4.

Come to think of it, I may have an NOS set for a 82 Camaro plastic hood. pricy tho.
