Front door / rear fender alignment - Solved

Hi everyone,

So after reading a lot of old posts (in attempt to find my own solution) of other thirdgen owners having alignment issues between the front of their doors to the rear of their fenders ... I came up with my own solution...

These are custom made hinges I made to push the front of my door out enough to align it to the front of my fender panels. Once installed, my doors aligned almost perfectly to my fenders. Of course the thickness of the metal had to be measured to be the same size as the gap between the fender/door.

In case you never heard of this issue, a quick search on google for "thirdgen doors stick in from fender" will give you plenty of results on the thirdgen forums regarding this issue.

Hope this helps some!

How big is the gap between the fenders and the hood?

The majority of the issues with the fender sticking out further than the doors has nothing to do with the door needing shims. The fender mounting point behind the front wheel is where most people jack the car up and have damaged the flange. The weight of the car has bent the flange out, which also forces the trailing edge of the fender to bow out.

If you release the tension on the flange, you'll align the fender to door.

Next time I'm out working on it I'll take a look and provide some measurements

I've read a lot of this through multiple threads on here and I came across this as well. I saw some users were able to fix their issue by fixing these. However, when I looked at mine I noticed a few problems with this idea yet I can't remember exactly what it was, but it was enough of a reason for me to go with this solution, but I'll take a look again and report back when I get some time to look into it...
