Adding vents to bulge hood?

The clear coat on my GTA hood is in really bad shape so I swapped it out for a powerbulge hood I picked up a while back.

I like the look of the bulge hood, but miss the nostril vents.

Does anyone have pictures from where someone added them?

power bulge with both extractors at the back and one nostril on the flat side at the front was what I was thinking of trying longer term (power bulge hoods are stupid expensive over here)

One does not defile a powerbulge hood to add cornball fake louvers.

lol, always a pleasure Drew. However, may I retort that the powerbulge itself was a form over function in most designations aswell (e.g. the Formula)

I see the idea as a harmonious marriage of thirdgen trans am decoration

Mehhhh.... The bulge traces it's lineage to the 4.9L Turbo T/A, as the Pontiac engine was expected to carry over. From 82-84 the powerbulge was functional. When placed on the Formula, it conveys the simplicity, elegance, and raw brutality of the no-nonsense street machine.

Fake vents on the other hand, are the nipples upon George Clooney's bat-suit. The antithesis of all the Powerbulge hood represents. One does not customize GM's Sistine Chapel.

hey we agree, in some guises it was ornamental.

Molesting an original clean hood, which I get is a pretty quintessential styling cue of the original (and purist) incarnation of the third gen trans am, sure I get the 'heresy' scorns. Lol, can only imagine the pitch-fork mob if someone did it to an aluminium hood.

But I think this frankenstein special will look pretty serious on a 91/92 trans am, 17" GTA wheels or Ronal R15s; complementary drop. Few gauges peeking out of the bulge exit. The more keen eyed catching the tease of a fishnet headrest to some period recaro seats. May be even put that gradient decal on the bulge that i think the 84 cars could be ordered with.

Grazing from the buffet of thirdgen styling tropes...

Re: Adding vents to bulge hood?

I'm in complete agreement with Drew! Why not just repaint the GTA hood? The cost to repaint the hood will be far cheaper than fabricating vents in the cowl induction hood and then repainting the cowl induction hood after all of the fabrication. Just curious why you're not repainting the GTA hood. I too once had a wild idea - I was going to add IROC hood louvers to a flat firebird hood and apparently it would be a first as I couldn't find a single trace of anyone pulling it off or even trying it. After a lot of research and even comparing the hoods, I scrapped the idea rather quickly.

No pictures...I've never seen it done. But if it's what you want, go for it.
