Hawks Firebird Rear Spoiler--Finally Installed
Finally got the new Hawks spoiler painted & installed, replacing the horribly cracked and rotten factory one. A year or so ago I started a thread asking about the OER brand spoiler from Classic; the majority opinion from you guys was go with Hawks. Glad I did--it fit pretty good.
My wife was on a road trip through South Carolina so she was able to pick it up in the van (minivans DO come in handy!) saving the shipping cost. And she picked it up the day before the big fire they had last month--incredible luck. Don't know if any spoilers burnt up in that; anyone know?
Like others have mentioned, the ends of the spears were too far inward, about 1" on mine; see photos below. But, there's enough flex in them that they can easily be pulled into position and clipped on the glass. I was lazy and used the small clips supplied with it instead of using the six original mounting points with sheet metal screws like some of you have done. The clips seem solid enough for my low mile use, but if they were twice as wide with two screws in each, and made out of stiff stainless steel it would be better.
It sat nicely on top of the hatch--excellent fit on the driver's side; and as some of you mentioned for yours, more of a gap, though slight for me, on the passenger side. All in all, I'm very satisfied with it, and the flawless paint job by Color Craft Auto Body in Hobart, IN.

Yours has that slight arch over the third brake light like mine. The only way to cure that is to make a riser where the wing mounts to the deck.
I'm good with the arch.

Looks good. Saw one in person the other day and noticed the things you mentioned.
Anyways, I’d have shipped it vs owning a minivan.

Yes, thanks--it's only got 35,000 miles; a lucky Ebay find several years ago where the seller said he'd trade for an old truck. I had a nice '70 Chevy truck so we just traded titles.
This pic is with the original spoiler; the cracking was only visible from the rear but it was pretty bad.

That came out nice. Encouraging, as I have a Hawk's spoiler that need to be painted Bright Red and installed. Nice to know the results can look that good.

Re: Hawks Firebird Rear Spoiler--Finally Installed
I am confused on how this installs. I have an issue where the side are slightly bowed and created a gap from the metal tabs on both side. I dont see how those 2 little tabs fix that issue. Hawks said the spoiler is designed to have that gap. I dont buy it. How did you get yours flush without a gap on the sides with the 2 metal tabs please?
