Ahhh, you've got a set of those bitchin' pink rims too . I thought about getting mine redone, but I think I would take forever to mask them off ( this I why I wouldn't pay anyone to redo them ), so I'm been a bit lazy. But really, it shouldn't be too tough to clean up the wheels, mask 'em off, scuff up the pink paint, and lay down some fresh red. But your wheels are probably oxidized too, so now is probably also the time to strip off the clear, polish, and re-clear the whole wheels when your done. I would also get some decent paint ( this isn't a job for red Krylon ).

Just a thought... Would red powdercoat last better? We all know what happens to the red paint, and I would assume it would do it again within a few years.

I assume Gm used a crappy paint the first time. Goto a paint shop and have them mix up the colour red of your choice. That will be your best bet.

chances are its not GM's fault, I guess it could be in a round about way, but they probably bought the rims from someone that used cheep paint. My factory alum rims were made in Germany, or some place European, I forget their name, but its cast right in the wheels

When my grand mother worked for Fisher Body, Instead of masking off pieces that had chrome underneeth, they would sometimes paint the whole part, then take a rag with some laquer thinner & wipe off what they did not want painted before it would dry.

I think my wheels on my formula were first painted gray, then they machined the surface, then they would be clear coated.

Hope that gives you some ideas...

John
