Best aftermarket fender?

I need two fenders for my car. For those who have replaced their fenders, have you found one brand better than the others? Hawks has OER's for $311 shipped and summit has goodmark fenders for $390 shipped. Opinions?

Re: Best aftermarket fender?

I have heard that the aftermarket fenders are all the same, just distributed as different brands.

My personal experience with aftermarket fenders for both my old 86' IROC and my 89' GTA is lousy in both cases. In both cases it was 15+ years ago, but the issues were thin gauge metal, uneven hood and door gaps, mounting holes slightly off and just poor fitment overall. I don't know if the newer reproduction fenders are any better then they were back then.

Personally, I would source a good, rust free used fender.

Every body guy I know will tell you to buy original if you can, it will take him less time to iron any dings out of it then to fit and gap the aftermarket parts. Check with Hawks if they have any MINT fenders. Personally if its metal I try to find it in the junkyards, if its plastic I will usually opt for aftermarket.

Buy good used GM or light your money on fire.

Re: Best aftermarket fender?

I figured atleast the better brand aka goodmark/OER's would have been better quality, but i guess theres nothing better than factory GM. Thanks for the input guys. Off to find GM.

Goodmark puts their name on a bunch of offshore parts. Don't be surprised when the cardboard packing says the part is made in Taiwan, and the only place that says Goodmark is a sticker stuck to the box.

That sucks. Was really hoping for a new, good quality fender.

Re: Best aftermarket fender?

I talked to Hawk's about a year or so ago about a good condition used fender, and they didn't have one available. I asked for pricing on a new one, and they gave me a price but said I'd be better off finding a used one. Ultimately the guy doing the body work said he'd rather fix mine than use a "new" aftermarket fender.

Re: Best aftermarket fender?

Back in 2000, I had a minor front end collision with my GTA. It was my fault and no collision insurance (broke college kid at the time), so I did the bodywork myself and had the paintwork done by a body shop. I replaced the left fender, hood and nose with aftermarket and all 3 of those pieces have fitment issues with the fender being the worst. I fought with them for many hours to just get the fit decent, but you could always tell it was hit. During my restoration of the car now almost 20 years later, I will be replacing those aftermarket panels with good used ones because the fitment is so poor.

i remember at the time back then, new OEM fenders we’re still available. $100 for aftermarket and $200 for OEM. The hood and nose were available new OEM as well. If I could only go back in time and give myself some money...
