Taillight covers?

Hi all.
Does anyone have any experience with these taillight covers? I was considering getting a pair because Im too lazy to heat shrink/plasti dip/tint. I found these on Ebay for about $40

Re: Taillight covers?

When I was 18 I had a set on my Camaro. I had an excited transexual cop in a 4x4 Blazer patrol car claim I was driving without my lights on. Shim took about a mile to catch up to me, and called it in as a high speed pursuit. Like I said, the officer got very excited, flew out of his/her cruiser with his/her gun drawn. If not for my white privilege I probably wouldn't be here today.

The moral of the story is they make your tail lights dim(mer). You open yourself up to being rear ended, or harassed by mentally unstable law enforcement officials. Not to mention they're just old enough to be played out, and haven't really come back around full circle to where they are kinda getting cool again. Maybe in another 20 years.

This is a very interesting story lol thanks for the info. Thinking I'll keep the tail natural to avoid he/she's lol

Their cool, but as states, hard to see your tails. I would use a light batch of spray on tint if i were to do it again.

Re: Taillight covers?

I used to LOVE them.

Now I prefer the stock look.

See if you can find the ones that had tabs on the insides of both sides..... Then you slide in a clear or tinted cover between them to form 1 long line of blackness. Was so cool!

Re: Taillight covers?

Used to have them on my '92....CA police hassled me all the time for 'em.
Some states don't allow them.

LED replacements for bulbs would probably make them bright enough to show through much better than the incandescent bulbs...

The taillight spray-on tint they used to sell, never held up for long.

Re: Taillight covers?

I like the look of the tint/paint, but don't care at all for the covers. Ultimately, for appearance reasons alone, I chose to keep 'em stock, but there are a few guys here who have some pretty sharp looking tinted/painted tails.

Re: Taillight covers?

I thought they were cool in the 90s.. until I got a nasty cop that wrote me up almost a $400 ticket with three moving violations in one stop..

-obstructing tail lights
-obstructing turn signals
-obstructing reverse lights

I probably could have fought it but I was 17 and this cop made me feel like I insulted everyone in his family and told me he’d pull me over every day if I step out of line and he can check my tire tread depth and write me up for that too..

Lost my license for 30 days on that one ticket.. 3 moving violations in 1 year is 30 day suspension in Mass..

So yeah, similar to Drew except my cop was a big, miserable guy that probably got abused as a kid somehow..

Dude used to follow me around town and pulled me over a bunch! I started avoiding that town..
