Aftermarket (auto) Shifter Knob
Aftermarket (auto) Shifter ****
I saw a Carbon Fiber Shifter **** that I liked and was thinking about getting it but I know ours use the little clip to hold it on so can I use an AfterMarket one?

The aftermarket ***** usually have a set screw that keeps 'em on.

Here's a pic.
It's not real Carbon Fiber but I don't really care. I'm wanting to replace mine cause it's got alittle wear on it but was just thinking about getting it. Not sure if I will tho. Oh JCwhitney has it for like $28.00.

It seems like just about all of the mid 80's+ GM floor auto shifters have a similar design on how they mount. I have taken apart camaro's, firebirds, buicks and Cadillacs, they all seem to operate the same, are held on with the little clip on the front, etc. The only difference is the configuration. It might be woth a shot to see if it works.
JC Whitney sends a return mechandise form with all the items I have ever gotten. Unfortunately, by the time you pay for shipping both ways, it sometimes cost as much as the product.

i changed the shifter **** in a new alero at work a couple weeks ago.. and it seemed to be identically setup as ours are... so im tinkin that if u find aftermarkets for the aleros.. u might be able to use it... of course im not 100% possitive on the sizes an such.. but it was identical setup.. and since it is so similar to the grand ams.. u prolly have a shot with them too

Its like the Shifter **** for the Boneville, they look Identical to the firebird ones, but some were leather, like for the firebird, it would really surprise me to find out there different designs.

That shifter **** looks sweet! If you order it, fill us in on how it works and supply part numbers. I would maybe be interested in one. I don't suppose they have matching e-brake handles?

I got that exact **** in my trans am. Well not exact, the button on mine is black, but the rest is carbon fibre. It looks swett IMO. The clip is only for the stock shifter, its not necessary in changing it.

Yes, I'm sure. The round **** in my 86 was FUBAR, so I tried to use the **** from my 89 (which now has a Megashifter), and it wouldn't work (I knew it wouldn't, but I tried it anyway). I had to install the whole shifter just to use the ****. But it's not as bad as it sounds. It still only took about 20 minutes. All you have to do is remove the console lid (six T-10(?) Torx screws), unhook the shift cable and park-lock cable (both can be done with a small awl or screwdriver), unplug the wiring harness, unbolt the shifter (four 10mm bolts on the floor and one on the backside), and make the swap. "Installation is reverse of removal."

Cool. Now to just find 1 from like an 85. There's no way to mod it instead of changing it right??

What is the actual difference between the way the c-clip works with it and the way the other does?? What would have to be modded?? What tools do u think would be needed?? I want to do this for the IROC-Z I'm looking for sometime not the RS.
