Firebird pop up headlines - pre 1991, how to remove

how do you guys go about removing your headlights? I can't really get to the bottom screws of the 4 screws that hold the headlight trim ring secure. to jamb a screw driver in there would scratch the bumper. its below the bumper line. the only thing I can see is to remove the whole assembly, or pop off the headlight backing by removing it from the adjusting spring, which is pretty hard to do and easy to accidentally scratch some paint.

I think you just need to loosen the bottom two, and remove the top two. The bottom two tabs on the retainer should be slotted for this very purpose. Put some tape or cling wrap to protect the paint on the bumper for the bottom two screws, or use an offset screw driver

I figured this out yesterday. I think the best, safest, easiest way to do this is to remove your lower front spoiler. Then you can access the 2 lower screws from below. You will need to manually tilt the head lights into a position where you can access the screws. each screw requires a different tilt for easiest access. the 2 screws on top can easily be accessed when headlights in up right position.
