Rear View Mirror Placement

Kind of a random question, but has anybody ever tried, or actually accomplished placing the rear view mirrors on the fenders? I always thought it was a stupid Jap car gimmick, until I actually saw the advantages it has on blind spot visibility and having the mirrors within your field of view. Now I'm kind of curious about what a Third Gen would look like with the mirrors there.

In my opinion I don't think it would look very good on a 3rd gen. Just my honest opinion though.

It might be worth playing around with the idea a little bit just for S&G. Like I said, the practicality factor might be enough (for me at least) to overcome it looking a little stupid.

On the practicality side , think of how much of a PIA they would make doing things like sparkplugs , or even checking the oil for that matter . Any time you needed to lean into the engine bay from either side of the car there they'd be lurking there , just waitin to bash your elbow on

With the narrow fender lip, they would need to be mounted to the hood or side of the fender. If they're mounted on the hood, there wouldn't be any bashed elbows.
One could, if their ability allows, cut a hole in the fender, make an actuated door, and mount the mirrors so they open and close. When the car is parked, the mirrors are hidden inside the fenders.
Flip up lights...flip up mirrors.

Okay, we're getting a little too high tech for my monkey brain to comprehend... what I mean to say is, I get the concept, but that's too many moving parts. Mounting on the hood though, might not be an awful idea. All it would take is the proper angle neck and mirror placement for it to work. On the fender would also work, and you could even make them easy to detach with bolts. Putting studs in would also work, but then you'd just be stabbing yourself in the belly or the crotch with them depending on whether you mounted them on the top, or side of the fender.
