Does anyone have experience with those 5 panel rear view mirrors?
Does anyone have experience with those 5 panel rear view mirrors?
My stock rear view mirror has fallen off twice already and I'm kinda tempted to upgrade while it's already off. How hard is the install and most importantly, is it even worth it?
Here's the kind of mirror I'm talking about

Re: Does anyone have experience with those 5 panel rear view mirrors?
These cars have the smallest, if not altogether non-existant, blind spot of any car I have ever driven. I believe a mirror like that would be more in the way that it would be helping.
If mounted properly a regular mirror should stick just fine, making sure the glass is clean is super important. (glass is porous so wait an hour or so after washing to make sure it is dry).
I have a 4th gen mirror in mine, with the reading lights and such, pretty nice.
*edit* getting bright lighted in a regular rear view is bad enough...I can't imagine what would happen with one of those.

I saw one once mounted in a 2nd Gen. Camaro. TACKY as hell.
I would pass on that.

the only remedy i know of to glue a stock mirror on, and keep it on:
buy the mirror glue at any parts store. use the cleaning wipe included.
when you apply the glue, add 2 or 3 drops of gorrilla glue to the mix, and swirl it around onto the little thingamagig, and press it for one minute as you normally would.
let it sit for 24 hours. reinstall the mirror.
it wont come off,
as for the getto mirror. ummm, NO!!

However for the street just plain tacky. Either buy a new mirror, or head to the junkyard and pull a compatible one out of a later GM car.
And my Focus to the GTA is a night and day difference. I can see the entire world behind me in the GTA. In the Focus its like tunnel vision.

My mirror also fell off after my attempts to glue it on failed. I suggest the route I took; take your car to an auto glass installer and have it professionally installed. Mine has not failed since I chose this option.

The **** mirror (auto dimming, temp, compass) is an easy upgrade. It's a bit larger than OE, but not obtrusive, I think.
