'83 CrossFire Z28 needs love...Project

It has been a while since I've been on here, 2 foot surgeries and a major neck surgery have put me out of commission for more than a year so far! Hopefully I can start doing a little work to CrossFire again soon. I have allot of rust to fix, a little more than I hoped for but it could always be worse.

Awesome, I have the same car, in about the same shape only mine has t tops. I’ve been slowly cutting out rusted floor pans and welding patches in. The crossfire is definitely not winning any races but I loved driving it. Can’t wait to get it put back together.

Very cool! I'm always happy to find new members with the same ride as me. The '83 Z28 holds a special place in my heart since I was 16 yrs old. It was a white '83 T-top with red/orange stripes around the bottom and silver ground effects that my best friend and I terrorized 3 counties with back in the mid 80's! His dad helped him buy the car in 1985 when we were in high school, we practically lived in it for the next couple years, we were always cruisin around everywhere. That was a party I can't remember all the details to!! Simpler times times back then though. I intend to paint this one identical to the one we ran around in, only mine will be ALLOT faster. I plan to keep the CrossFire system on it, since its very rare and I love the look on people's face when they see under the hood. It will be heavy modded tho, and sitting atop a 383 stroker.....that will win races, lol.

Do you have any pics of your '83 that you can post on here? I'd love to check it out. Mine is quite stripped down now, thanks largely to my 12 year old son who loves helping me work on the '83, and the '87 IrocZ (daily driver) as well. The floors in the '83 need some extensive work from rust holes, I'd like to see how you did yours and maybe get some ideas. Hopefully you can get her back together and on the road soon, I go nuts if I have to go more than a few days without driving the Iroc!

The pic below is pretty much where I'm at right now, at least she is inside out of the weather....

.....and this is what I plan for her to look like once I'm finished.....

Here she is when I first got her last spring

And here is the majority of the rust I’m currently dealing with.

Both sides footwells are pretty much gone, I have a mig and am slowly teaching myself metal fab so it’s slow going. Other than this though it only needs brakes and exhaust and it’s ready to go.

I also had to weld in a patch on the back footwell I’ll try to dig up some pics of that job. I don’t have great heating in my garage so I’m hoping the weather breaks soon here in PA so I can get back to welding.

Nice! Sometimes I wish mine was T-top like yours, but then they would probably just leak on my leg when it rains. The one from my teen years did and it was not even two years old at the time!

My driver side floor is similar to yours, but my passenger side will have to have a partial pan replacement. I have a rust hole beneath the windshield wiper area on driver side, which had water running down into the floor. Going to be difficult to get to that to fix it...

My driver side floor....
