How hard is it to change the seat belt latch

When I was opening it the other day, the spring in the latch broke on my 87. How hard is it to do and what has to be done? Thanks.

Mine did the same thing, i kind of messed with it and rigged it so it worked, but it was pure luck. Better go to a junkyard and get a new one, they're only attached with one torx bolt next to the seat.

It hasnt been off before, but it doesnt look too hard to do. I didnt know if the seat and everything had to come off too. Im going to see about picking up a new one from the dealer...eh better to get a new one insted of first looking around for a used one then hoping it will work. Thanks!

No the seat doesnent have to come out... just push it up all the way. I think its a t50 or t55 torx bit... f you have a problem breaking it loose, put a small pipe or what not on the ratchet for some extra leverage. Problem solved!

Craftsman carries screw extractors, i got a set for christmas. but i don't know if they work on the torx screws or not.

but as john said, just be careful when you remove the screws.

I went to the dealer tonight. They said it might be under that recall, but they will call tomarrow and find out. If it is, they said they will just replace the spring to make it work again. If its not still covered under that recall, they will sell me a whole unit for like $60, but all they have anymore is black so I dont know what I will do.
