Are all 87's covered under the seat belt recall, or just some of them.

I had to stop hard and the spring inside just broke. I went to the dealer to just buy a new one, and the guy in the parts dept said there was a recall and I should talk with someone in the service dept first. When I got to service, I gave them my owners card and she left for 5 minutes, came back, and said there was no recall. I told her there was but she insisted that maybie its just my car thats not under the recall.

I know there is a recall from like 85-90, but is it all camaro/firebirds, or just some? Thanks.

I've got an 87 IROC, and it was recalled for seatbelts. September 1991 was when they were repaired. According to the receipt, Part#14097930, replace seat belt buckle assembly.

Recall 90C22

Update: Late afternoon today, the guy that I origanlly talked to called me and said "hey I got the part in, I just need the vin number and for you to make a appoitment". I told him I was over and someone else in the parts department sent me over to service and she said after she ran the number that there was never a recall". He paused and said, well come over tomarrow and give me the number and we'll talk about putting it in.

I have the feeling that yesterday it was late and that lady didnt feel like going through a recall service.

Im going to go over tomarrow afternoon, give him the number, and find out whats going on. :Sigh: I should just buy a new one and be done with it.

Well I think the guy at the dealer I went to is just full or sh*t. I dont see how they can put a time limit on a safety recall and I'm just to lazy to do anything about it.

This is interesting. I have an 87 and the seatbelts don't really hold you at all; they're just there. I have to pull on the shoulder belt every now and then to keep it taut. Is there a recall on all 87s? Keep me posted, guys!

Mine does exactly the same.. Hardly safe I washed them recently with a stiff brush and soapy water and it helped a little. Anyone know how to sort this out?

There are supposed to replace them, thats IT. If u have an 84-90 F-Body, u can have them changed free.

Final update on my problem; I went over and that guy ran the vin number and said nothing came up. I told him that I know my car is affected, but he insisted it didnt come up. He said "its probably because they were replaced before, but theres no way of telling".

Well I paid $4 for the spring and button and tomarrow im going to try to install it.

Hopfully that will be the end of that problem

Well, maybe i can clear up the problem for you. yes, your car did have a recall for the seat belts! the problem is, G.M. throws out all vin's after they are 10 years old. i work at a G.M. dealership, and tried to see if my 86 iroc had the recall performed. it kept saying vin not found. thats when i found out the vins are thrown out after 10 years old. so now there is no way of finding out if the recall was performed unless you know the former owner...best of luck, tom

I went into a dealership for a buddy with an 84 Fiero, and they still honored that recall on those cars, that was in about 97/98 ish. It had already been performed, but they still had the info... hmm, this is strange...

I would think for safty recalls they have to honor it. But if it is cosmetic they probably wouldn't have to honor it.

Why dont one of us get into an accident & Sue GM because they refused to replace the part and it failed...

Just kidding...

John

About a year ago I had the buttons done on my 87 T/A. They gave me a kinda hard time but did it after I asked for it in writing that they are refusing to do the safety recall so If I get hurt for my seatbelt failing I can sue GM. Everything went very smooth after that
