Trunk slider bushings.

Has anyone used the trunk bushing kits to replace the broken bushings that allow the trunk slider mechanism to slide and down freely? I need to replace mine.

Re: Trunk slider bushings.

Here is the slider mechanism. The original bushings have disintigrated. Mechanism still works.

Might want to re-title this thread "1986-91 hatch motor guides". I think you'd get some more replies.

We recently used a kit from Top Down Solutions to repair one on an '89 TTA here at work that someone slammed the hatch on and destroyed. Fixed it right up.

Re: Trunk slider bushings.

I used a kit from TDS as well. Good kit, worked well. Had to shave one a bit with a file but no big deal, works like a champ.

Re: Trunk slider bushings.

Also recently redid mine as mine were gone. Easy enough install, but they were TIGHT. I had to grease the hell out of the rails and run them up/down like made manually with my hands to finally get them to wear in enough that the hatch motor would operate smoothly.

I re-assembled it and let the motor do it the first time and the extra resistance caused the plastic gear in the housing to strip itself. Then I had to buy a new gear too.

Same here. I used Lon's kit from TDS.

Photos of doing the job start HERE. That wonderful Wen belt/disc sander I used...a work anniversary gift...this was the only time I used it before it burned up in my garage fire back in February.
