1985 rear hatch - non-motorized

i have my 1985 IROC with a rear hatch switch to open the lock. I do not believe mine has a motor to pull and close it. I use to just shut it closed. Lately if I use the switch on the console it will open the lock but then be stuck in open. If I use the key to open the hatch then I close it with no problems, it will lock into place no problem. I have read many threads on the rear hatch but they all seem to be motorized that close the hatch. I do not believe mine has that motor. I've seen some with what look like contacts that tell its open or closed, I do not have those contacts. Do I need to replace an actuator that resets the lock so it will accept the latch?

My '84 T/A is manual lift & close but has the open button on the dash. I have no problem with lock. When u open the hatch with the power button, there is no reason for the lock assembly to revert to locking mode. I would consider removing the lock/latch assembly & testing it. The only thing I have is that I have to slam the hatch to close if windows are up & doors closed. When it is cold, I tend to open a door a bit & hatch closes & locks more easily.

There is a solenoid at the latch that actuates when you hit the switch. Could be the solenoid is sticking and holding the latch open when you try to close it. As opposed to the key not doing that since this bypasses the solenoid. I would spray some lube into the solenoid where the cable inserts.

I did spray some silcone oil into the solenoid and by the next day. It opened as usual with the console switch and then closed and locked with no issues. Thanks!
