Re: door help

Yea, door guards. They're held on with basically 2 sided tape.

To remove just heat with a hair dryer and gently pull off, then use WD-40 and a rag to remove the remaining sticky.

Re: door help

And the paint underneath will likely look brand new and shiny, and unfaded (red tend to fade with age).

Re: door help

As mentioned above I used a hairdryer/heatgun and fishing line as a “saw” to get through the glue behind the trim peice. Mine took considerably more effort than I anticipated. Be careful not to damage paint if it’s nice!

Re: door help

I'm actually preparing to paint it a candy apple red. I've got it in my head this car would look way better without them. I appreciate the info I'm getting.

I hope you'll post some progress pics. That's a color I love on just about anything.

Re: door help

I took took them off years ago w fishing line and used a 3m eraser wheel to take the adhesive off. It works great and is totally safe on paint.

Re: door help

I used dental floss instead of fishing line. I also used it to remove emblems off of other cars.

Re: door help

I went out today and used fishing line. turns out 33 year old glue isn't very strong. It did take some paint with it but sense its going to be painted in the next few weeks, I wasn't worried. My car is known to be cursed, anything that can go wrong will go wrong so im surprised it was that easy.
