Front Bumper Impact Bar Mystery

I need to replace my front impact bumper and shock absorber assembly. My car is the 92 Camaro. The donor for the replacement front impact bar assembly came from an 89 Camaro. They look identical except for a plastic part that hangs under the crash bar. In the pictures below, the black bar is from my 92 and the blue bar is from the donor. The blue bar has two plastic parts bolted to the bottom. These were not on my 92 crash bar (factory original). My 92 manual does not show them in the assembly drawings. Does anybody know what these parts are on the blue bar and how the are used? Thanks.

Re: Front Bumper Impact Bar Mystery

My 1989 Firebird has these on them. They attach to nothing. I found myself wondering the same thing just a few days ago.

surely not meant to be lift points, right?

Just plastic so can't be lift points. I thought maybe they were supports for the front ground effects but they sit too far back.

Re: Front Bumper Impact Bar Mystery

There is an older thread about this somewhere. They were used in the factory assembly line as an anchor/rest point during the assembly process. Just left on the car afterwards.

Re: Front Bumper Impact Bar Mystery

They can be removed easily. They were used for something during assemble... my 87 has them but 89 does not.
