AC/Heater Box Gasket

I need to replace the gasket on the AC/Heater Box on the engine side of the firewall. So, guessing it needs to be relatively heat resistant. The old gasket appears to be 3/16 inch thick and has some give to it. It needs of course to be able to bend around corners and has wide spots at each of the mounting holes. It is a one piece gasket even though the cover is two pieces. I haven't found a repop gasket so was thinking about finding something in sheet stock to cutout a gasket. I see that Home Depot has some sheets of EDPM but it is only 1/16 inch thick. Any body have suggestions or have found something that works to seal the covers on reassembly? Thanks.

Re: AC/Heater Box Gasket

The original was a adhesive backed, die stamped closed cell foam.
I'm sure you can find a roll in a industrial catalog and make it if needed.

Re: AC/Heater Box Gasket

I searched "adhesive backed foam" on Amazon and found a bunch of options.
This This
one says it is made from "Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM)". A quick Google of "ethylene propylene diene monomer heat resistance" leads me to believe that it's good from "-50°C to +120°/150°C (-60°F to +250°/300°F)". I can't say for sure this is what you need, but it looks OK. Good luck!

Thanks. I will check that out. I know they use (or used) EDPM on RV roofs but that was much thinner than I need.
