ThirdGen Windshield: What other cars/truck used the same?
Hi,
Since I'm loocking for a new windshield for my car, I'm thinking if this same camaro/firebird windshield was factory installed in other GM cars/trucks.
It's too specific?
If anyone knows, please give me any reference or information about this topic
Thanks in advance

Its specific, looking at the OER replacement part number, it doesnt fit anything other than a 82-92 Fbody. If you can find the original GM part number, you could also cross reference that.

I had my car painted this summer and the new windshield was 450 installed by the glass company. IDK what company was used but it was a standard auto glass place. Not a specialty company. They were able to get all new glass within a day or two. The door glass was 120 each.

82-92 f-body only. I found several places on craigslist that can install it for around $260, mobile too. Safelite didn't even offer service for these old cars.

I wish GM would've kept antennas that were fused between the panes of glass in the windshield, like in the 60s and 70s. Yes, they worked just fine, and many GM cars and trucks still had them until around 1987. Their elimination was most likely due to corporate bean-counting, which got its foothold in the 80s, as those windshields were probably more expensive "than necessary."
For cars as streamlined as 3rdgens, a windshield antenna would've been ideal. Clean appearance. No worries in car washes. No ugly mast and base, whether fixed or electric. No hole in the fender or quarter. And since most people rarely use their AM/FM these days, the antenna would be out of sight, yet still there if someone needed it. With so many features "built into" windshields nowadays, having the antenna located there makes sense again.
If I ever have to replace my windshield (there's a teeny tiny chip that's likely to explode someday), or get the car painted (a good time to eliminate the hole in the fender), then I'd hope to find a company that will not only produce a 3rdgen windshield, but also fuse an antenna wire between the panes, "like the old days." 2ndgens had them, so any place that produces 2ndgen windshields ought to be able to do it.
I know there are hide-a-way antennas, but that's just more junk and clutter to stuff under the dash or somewhere in the car. No thanks.

I had my antenna hole in the fender closed up when the car was painted. I have a modern stereo the has car play and it connects to my phone. I haven't had a functional radio in the car since 2000 and don't miss it at all.

The 1987 to 1995 Stutz Bearcat II has the same windshield as 3rd gen F bodies. FWIW

The 5.7-litre (350 cu in) Corvette engine was an option. Just 12 or 13 Bearcat IIs were produced between 1987 and 1995. Notable owners included the Sultan of Brunei, who owned two.

Seeing "creations" like this one bring to mind two questions every time:
First of all, from just looking at it, why would somebody buy something like this?
And then...What do the princes and sultans and grand poobahs of wherever do with these cars after they've made their showing in them? You never see one of these shipped back to America!
Back to the windshield question now. Would it be feasible to run your own little antenna wires inside the sealing material around the edges of a new windshield? Might be a good experiment to try now on the current cracked one if you're going to have the windshield replaced anyway.

But if you price it for the Sultan's fancypants Stutz Bearpaw it'll be well north of a grand......

Since I live in Chile, South America, any part cost is charged with freight + taxes.
A local shop charge US$ 540 for a windsield installed and guaranted.
I've disimulated littles bottom cracks with resin + interior bottom with black paint + exterior plastic pieces glued, but the cracks are growing and my locla technical/smog test will be the next april.
I´m thinking if cutting a Silverado or Suburban windshield could be a cheaper solution.
But, with the information from this forum, I'll be investigating in local junckyards for a Stutz Bearcat II
