Help with correct hatch lift support struts
Hi everyone,
I've been lurking the message for years. I can usually find the answer I need, but this one has me scratching my head. I hope you can provide some clarity. I'm in need of new hatch lift supports for my 92 Camaro RS Coupe, 5L, 5spd. I looked up the part on AC Delco's website, and the below three matches are what I found. Where I need help is with the description. First one is the Wiper. To my knowledge, no 3rd gen Camaro has ever had rear wiper blades. What is this Wiper in reference to? Second is the window sunshade. Is this in reference to the interior pullout sunshade or to exterior louvered shades? Lastly, the spoiler. In the case of an RS, it does have a tail spoiler, but obviously the Z28 has a much larger and pronounced spoiler. Are they referring to the larger Z28 spoiler specifically? I realize that early 3rd Gens had base models with the complete absence of a rear tail spoiler, but to my knowledge, late 3rd gens such as the 92 always had a spoiler. Thank you for your help.

Early 3rd gens up until I think 85 you could get an optional rear window wiper that was on the decklid and the squirter was in the center of the roof at the rear.
I have a fully loaded 1992 Firebird base model with the pedestal mount spoiler and the rollout cargo/security sunshade. I used the Stabilus - No Wiper, No Spoiler version at 116 LBS of force. I can't imagine there is much weight difference between your Camaro RS hatch and spoiler and mine.
Got mine at O'Reilly Auto Parts.
In cold weather it will pop open the rear hatch several inches and with minimal force using my finger tips I can lift it up about 8 more inches and then it will slowly rise until fully open. The warmer it is the better it works until about the mid to upper 70s then it will pop open and smoothly but quickly rise open but not jarringly violent.
You live in Phoenix, AZ. You need the No Wiper, No Spoiler version. Hot as it is there they should be just fine. Get them at a local parts store so if you don't like then you can exchange them more easily.
You don't want the strongest hatch struts. I wanted smooth and gentle. The original hinges on my hatch are in great shape and the decklid on my Firebird is even with the quarter panels on both sides and I want to keep it that way.
On a 89 GTA after swapping out the heavy AF factory wrap around Aero Wing spoiler for a Hawks light weight fiberglass reproduction you could launch Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit with the hatch struts that was on it and it violently shook the car.
