Need help with replacing the turn signal cancle cam
I got the steering wheel off without a problem with the stearing wheel puller, and i got the plastic cover off but i can't get the lock plate off. It's number 5 in the picture I attached. It has a little ring (#4) that looks like it has to be removed. It's not a full circle, it has about a 1/4 inch where it's open. I tried to get it out with an awl. I broke the tips off 3 of them. They weren't quality tools but I can't figure out how to take it off. The Cam is right behind that plate.
Are you using a Lock Plate Compressor? You need to push the lockplate down to get that little ring off. You can pick them up pretty cheap at the chain stores like Advance Auto or Pep Boys, etc. What is wrong with the turn signals anyway? Are they working but just not cancelling after you complete a turn? If so, does this only occur when turning one way? (left or right) There are two small springs in the switch that are clearly visible once you get the lock plate off, and you will probably find one of them broken. If you can find a donor switch with good springs you can replace the springs only. I believe these are available at the dealer as well. It's a much simpler fix than replacing the entire switch if that's all that is wrong. Hope this helps. If there's anything else, I've done my fair share of GM turn signal switches so just reply back and i'll see If I can help more

It dosn't cancle when i turn left. So it might not even be the cam? Would the dealer know what I'm talking about if I said that I need springs for the turn signal switch. Number 7 in the diagram is a spring is this the one you are talking about?
A dealer probably would be more inclined to sell you a whole switch. The #7 spring you are talking about is the big coil spring under the lock plate. The ones that do the cancelling in the switch are small, round coil in the middle with a "leg" coming off each end. I wish I had a picture of a switch to show you but I don't
Does anyone here have an exploded view of the switch itself? If it's only not cancelling for left turns I'd say almost 100% chance it's the little spring broken.

As far as your turn signal lever or stalk or whatever you want to call it, once you get the lockplate off you'll see that it's simply held on to the switch with a philips screw. That might be trickier to replace since the wipers wiring goes down thru the column. If you have to replace that as well you might as well want to go ahead and change the whole turn signal switch too. The main reason I say to change the spring for cancelling is to avoid having to fish the wires down thru the column....It's a PITA....Hope this helps
