Getting your steering wheel re-covered in leather.

I was wondering what I can do to get my steering wheel recovered in the sotck leather application. There are some kits down at the custom car/truck shops, but none of them keep the same stitching, pattern or original look. I would REALLY like to keep the steering wheel looking stock, and I see that 3rd Gen Resource has the steering wheel Re-Furbed and Re-Wrapped for $225, but I dunno, that seems a little steep to me, seeing as how theres NOTHING wrong with my wheel aside from the leather, and I bought my leather Jacket (Which was XXL) for $250 and theres a hell of alot more leather there. So, what I am wondering is, is there a place where I can get either a Re-Wrapping kit, or send the steering wheel to to have it Re-Wrapped? The local interior shop can't do the stiching either, and can't keep the original look, so, I need to try a different avenue. I think I'm going to try E-Mailing Stacy at Third Gen Resource as well to see if maybe they can Re-Wrap my wheel for a reasonable price, so, I'll post here for those interested in what she says. Thanx

Adam

me too

I have the same problem but no answer. I just wanted to get on this thread so in case someone answers I will see it. On my 91 Z28 there is about a 1 1/2" spot on the 12 oclock position that is worn away and its iritating because you see it and feel it constantly. the rest of my interior is perfect, I wonder if this is a common problem

I have the same problem Larry, 12 o'clock position, about 1" of the leather is worn away. I was thinking of taking it to a few leather shops or shoe repair places to see if they could do it and what they would charge. There's no way I'm spending $450 on a new wheel. If I have to, I might get a $200 aftermarket wheel. But I like the stock one.

Yes I like the stock one too. Maybe someone will help us out on here. There must be someway to do it, I was thinking about just taking it to an auto upholstery place but the golden guy here says that they wouldn't do it. ???

The issue isn't the amount of leather; it's the labor, and the fact that the leather is treated in such a way that it stands up to constant direct sunlight, sub-freezing temps, etc.

You get what you pay for. Don't buy something like that on the low bid: you'll get fornicated.

The price is probably high because when you re-cover a steering wheel you have all thse little baseball stitches to do, there are alot of them and a pain in the butt to do. When I had my interior done, that is what I was told.

Wow, check out the american stitches website mentioned on the previous message. Just what the doctor ordered and not to pricey, $210 for the steering wheel plus shipping. They are near Dallas, Texas. They do the brake handle and the gear **** too, pictures look really nice.
