I got into a an accident last Friday and I t-boned a lady going about 25mph. It was not my fault, fortunately, but the whole front of my car is pushed back about 1/2" and the unibody is slightly bent. My question is after I get the body work done, and they straighten the unibody (I know that it won't ever be completely straight again), would subframe connectors help give it more structural integrity? Since the unibody is essentially weakened a little, I thought that subframe connectors might help strengthen it a little.

 

Yeah, the subframes will help it out. When I sideswiped a tree on my drivers side door doin about 35-40, It bent the frame, yet the car still drove completely straight, and the t-tops went right on! Heres a few pics.

I almost can't believe that your f-body held up that good. Your wreck pictures look like the tree made your car into a V. Just another example to show how the integrity of our cars.

 

Lets just say that I won, not the tree! The tree was about 5 or 6" wide, and I knocked the F*cker down! Good thing I had the window down, or I woulda been showered with glass.

I didnt get hurt in the accident itself, but once I pulled off the curb, jumped out the t-top, and saw what I did, I started punchin the car as hard as I could... It took about 8 people and a cop to pull me away from it. I ended up breakin 2 knuckles and a hairline fracture on a bone. Serves me right for driving like an azz hole.

If the body shop is good, they'll be able to put everything back into specs again. I've watched a truck frame and a unibody car get straightend out. Pretty cool stuff to see a unibody car come back into shape Although, they did rip the core support where they had hooked onto LOL oops. The front was pushed back about 6 inches on the right front plus it was pushed up. Drivers side was actually pointed down a bit and pushed back. After they had made a couple of pulls, it was almost back into specs

 

IF you find a good frame shop they will be able to straighten your car to the point that you will never notice. I had an ex-girlfriend who's father did frame straightening. I dromve some of those cars, and they were just like new.

The moral of this post is, get a good frame shop.

I looked at a 92 T/A convertable for $2500 and only 79000 miles, but the front wheels were off center by 1/2 inch. I would have taken it except for that little detail. Its just an example of poor workmanship.

Well, I'm planning on taking it to the local GM dealer's body shop. I've known a few people who have gone there and they had excellent experiences with them.

 

its easy to get a car back into spec, and what someone said about tearing the core support thats no big deal, they where going to replace it anyway, if they werent they wouldnt have pulled from it, the reason they left it was exactly that...they needed a pull point

 

Woah, the garbage men are gonna be happy when they come by in the morning! Either that, or there gonna spend all morning deviseing a plan to get it into the back of that garbage truck.

Man, I'd have loved to gone garbage picking whenver you have that car out there! I needed those wheels real bad a few weeks ago.

I can't even imagine wrapping that thing around a tree.... and not getting hurt at all. Tough *** car

So anybody know of a good frame shop in the Southeast Texas area. I think I was a little hasty when I bought my bird cause I wanted to step up from the 6 in my camaro. Well, we asked and asked the guy about the history, but he said it was pretty clean. If I had taken some time to look I would realized that somebody probably T-boned or backed into it of something cause the passenger door is filled with bondo and the car pulls slightly to the right. There are a few other things I noticed, but overall I'm happy with the deal I got. Better than what I had. But it would be great if I could get rid of that pull.............. and the door

 

The guy that sold your car might have been "honest" with you when he sold you the car. I put honest because IF the title never shows the car to have been totaled or "salvage" in some states then there might not be the need to actually inform you about anything that has happened to the car from accidents etc.

Even things like "Carfax" would be a comlete waste of time for all those cars which were damaged before there was the internet to actually compile the information. I remember only a few years back and all I would get from the bump shop is a reciept, saying the car is good. I did not see any computers telling the world that my car was in a minor accident.

Of course there is the possibility that the car was damaged BEFORE he bought the it and he was not told either, so he could claim ignorance...
