Camaro Interior Fiberglass

I am thinking about replacing the headliner with a custom fiber glass one. It envolves filling all the holes with bondo, then putting fiberglass mat over it. I can paint it to match the outside of the car. I have t tops so there isn't too much work to do. Its just going to be messy working upside down and working for the correct thickness to line up with the dome light. What do all you think about this? Thanks

Why don't you just fiberglass the original headliner backing and then slide it in place. That way you won't be working upside down and you can paint it.

The guy I bought it from did the interior himself. The headliner is not salvageble at all.

Even if it is broken, or missing small pieces, it is salvagable with fiberglass. I wouldn't use bondo except in very small quantities to smooth. Fill the holes with glass and resin. If it is worse than that, get a better one out of a wrecking yard, glass it, and recover it or paint it.

I've got a question for you 502 or whoever. I am in the process of fiberglassing up my headliner, but I used the resin instead of the 3M adhesive, and in places where it had broken totally apart I have a really solid piece of fiberglass. Is this wrong? I mean for when I put the headliner material over it, is it going to look bad?

You want to get it as smooth as possible unless you are covering the headliner with foam or using foam backed fabric, and even then the foam will only hide so much. You could add extra resin and sand it down, or use bondo too if needed and sand that. I'm not certain what you mean by I used the resin instead of the 3M adhesive though. You use the 3M adhesive to attach the fabric to the headliner. It is just glue.

Just read one of the articles or posts on doing this and thought I read something about using the adhesive to attach the fiberglass sheets. Thanx
