Smoker's Interior

Any ideas on eliminating cigarette smoke odor from the interior? I've already tried Febreeze and airing out. The odor still lingers. Just wanted to try less expensive methods before I replace headliner, upholstery, and carpet.

Bro, that is one tough smell to get rid of. I really do not know of a way to kill the smell, other than what you do not want to do, headliner, carpet, etc.....You might try and get a professional detail shop to give it a whirl, They usually have the "good" stuff!

Funny you should mention that, I remember a guy telling me a story about a guy who bought a car (dirt cheap) that someone killed himself in. Said the rotting corpse just sat in the car in the middle of nowhere for like a week. He bought it dirt cheap, and had to drive it home with his head out the window. Said he replaced everything inside, down to the metal, and yet the smell still lingered. You'd think that would get rid of the smell.

My buddy Mike worked in a wrecking yard for about a year.... He noticed a car buried beneath a bunch of others........ The car was something like a mercedes.. Anyways, he noticed the trunk was welded shut.... One day when he was bored he decided to open ther trunk.... Supposively there was the skull of a human hand.... He said mafia or someone prolly cut the hand off and left it in the trunk... I dont know if I believe him, but they are quite crooked down at that place....

......

try some Glade* carpet fresh all over your interior, you may want to remove your CD player or cover good, any other stuff should be ok. maybee remove your headliner and speaker covers to apply the powder.it may take a while to vaccume it all back up though, works great in the house..don't just use car stuff from auto zone, get your hands on proffesional strength chemicals and don't underestimate household cleaners. I just bought a 13 yerar old corrola that has a very clean interior, the guy I bought it from said he removed the seats and carpet and shampoed the carpet. I'm not sure how bad your car is,but smoke smell will come out. after I quit smoking,I aired out my Trans Am and kept a handfull of "new car scent" trees hanging from the mirror.

I have heard of dealers placing dryer sheets under the seats to help get rid of the smell...

(NOTE: Go to your mothers laundy room and get some for free)

Just do not get caught, or ask her....

Tried the dryer sheet; didn't work. By the way, I haven't used my mom's household supplies since I moved out at 18.

I am in the repossession business.... Listen to this story.....

A friend kept checking an address for a 1995 Ford Explorer. It wasn't showing but the house had an attached garage.... After weeks of checking he attempted to get a view inside the garage via the side window. He shined his flashlight in the window and seen the car with the owner dead in the driver's seat with the windows down.

He called the police and they gained entry and handled the situation. So my buddy ends up with the truck...... bought it from his client. He ended up getting some spray from the morgue that killed the smell for like 3 or 4 months he sold the vehicle. 6 months later the new owner comes back with the truck and the smell. Needless to say the buyer ended up keeping it and dealing with the problem himself.

There is also a machine called an ionzer. I worked for a heating co . that had one. Though it was pretty large, they have to be smaller ones on the market. Try a few heating co. in your area and see if they have any. We also have one in the morge at work, and it works good. They have some kind of ultravilot light, and eletrostatic charge. Nicotine won't come out though till it's washed out. It's most likley in the headliner. You'll probably smell it every winter untill that is changed.

I used to smoke and all it took to get rid of the smell was a good steam cleaning with a Rug Doctor and used Resolve carpet cleaner.

I have seen those Ionizors in mags like "The Sharper Image" for your cig lighter. My mom swears by hers, but she has allergies really bad, thats what she uses it for...
