tilt column wobble

My tilt column on my 89RS started wobbling. You can move the column from the tilt portion to the steering wheel about 1/2 inch. Is there something inside the column that I need to tighten up? Or is this a sign that the column is ready for the scrapheap? Anyone have this problem before? I am new to the 3rd gen, but do have wrenching skills.

According to the mechanic who repaired my 91 TA, the steering knuckle loosens due to pressure against the steering column when tilt is released improperly.

Fortunately, the dealer I bought my car from made the repair without extra charge, which took about four hours. The good news; no parts, just labor.

i took my whole colum out tightend some bolts (could only get to 2 of them) and put it back in. 2 weeks later i'm back to square 1 with a colum you can swivel in a 360 degree circle, if you see any for sale let me know

if the bolts you didn't tighten fall out of their holes, they can cause the steering wheel to bind when turning. is very difficult to safely drive a car when you can't steer it.

Does anyone bother to search before posting anymore? This is a classic oldschool typical GM problem, its fairly easy to resolve if you're not a bonehead and have the appropriate tools.
