I think his tach was originally an 8k, and to answer your question, if you get a tach ouf of a V8 car and you have a v8 then there is no re-callibration needed. Been there done that...

heck I do not think there is anything to calebrate...

A V6 tach will not work tho because what happens is the distributor sends out a pulse for every time it sparks. The tack interprets the information and gives a reading. for every revolution of a v6 you get 6 pulses and 8 for a v8. Your reading will be off your engine will read 4000 RPM when your only actually doing 3000 RPM.

hope that makes sence...

John

in 87 here is what came with what:
LG4 = 85 speedo / 6k tach
LB9 (Auto) = 140 speedo / 6 K tach
LB9 (Manual) = 140 speedo / 8K tach
L98 = 140 speedo / 8 K tach

starting in 88 they made more variables and it also included rear axel ratios to mix things up.

I have the info for 87-92 for firebirds on my website if your interested... I got the info from the Parts & Illustration catalogs...

http://www.3rdgenformula.com look for speedo & tach combinations on the left side of the main menu

FlyinLow89, very nice man. Gee I wonder what your favorite color is. how much were those silver macwen guages, I like them alot. I'm getting the same shifter, its at pep boys for like 25 bucks or something. I already got those pedals too. How does your car feel with the NOS. Is it really fast or what. Also where did you find the identical carpet for your subs.:lala:

I can't wait till the car really gets painted, that pic makes my car look awesome.

I don't know if I am going to put decals on the car, looks pretty sweet without any.

I am going to try and get her painted in a couple of months, I am trying to save for the hood first then have her painted.
I didn't expect my 305 to die so soon, so putting the LT1 in the car is a major set back right now.

Btw, I am not made of money. 90% of my extra money goes into my car, I haven't bought any new clothes in a year, I am single and I am looking for Ms. Right , I work as a mechanic now, just started doing that 3 weeks ago. I had to borrow the grand for the LT1, already paid my friend back $500 of it already and the motor arrives today.

So, when the money starts coming in, she is getting painted.
