Headlight **** Problem!!!

I have an 85 Z28 that I am doing some interior work to. I need to remove the plate that houses the controls for the headlights. The only problem is that I can not get the **** off of the bar and I do not want to exert force upon the bar as to cause it to break and be w/o headling controls! Could someone please tell me how to remove this ****! Thanx.

There is a button (quite small) on the switch unit itself that you have to press while pulling out the **** to release it. If I remember right, it's a real b---h to reach up under the dash to get to it.

Ok, I am going to assume that the button that I am looking for is about the size of a small screw that has a spring on it, correct? Well I have found the button and when I press up on it, I can pull the headlight **** only back far enough to turn on the parking lights. If I release the pressure on the button and pull the **** back as far as it can go to engage the headlights, I can not push up on the button. Is there something I am not doing, or something i am doing incorrectly?
