the "storage box" in the rear

Have any of you replaced the storage box in rear on the driver's side? I have that whole plastic piece out and am going to improve on what GM did. That's really pitiful to make it out of paper. What are some good materials to use to make a replacement? Thanks.

Never replaced mine. But then again, I don't put 100lbs. of tools in there either. Just the front plate (with the bracket attached), owner's manual and a towel.

Sheet metal would be too noisy, IMO; how about making a huge bag out of canvas?

I'd say the best material would be something like acrylic or ABS plastic. Go for it.

EDIT: Left side, sorry.

Where can I get ABS plastic? Does anyone sell it in sheets?

When i took out the panel, i went to home depot and bought 1 of those kitchen square plastic garbage can.

Just cut it to the same measurements as yur card board box. Easy as hell, and i'll never rust or **** you off.
Fits perfectly well and easy to work with.

I cant believe GM was so cheap! Card board!

center console left side, pull and it drops towards floor,
rear compartment, unzip rear seat a little slide in,
rear compartment, top middle plastic piece panel.

GM blessed our cars with the quick pull, lean over pull there seat release, that way they can be comfortable, specially on road trips when they fall asleep you can lay it down.

GM's been making "glove boxes" from cardboard for years! Why let modern technology get in the way!

I got ABS plastic from www.commercialplastics.com until they got bought out by someone. There's a local distributor here. Found it in the yellow pages. Check under Plastics Distributors. They had something like 20 different kinds and textures of ABS plastic, not to mention color selection, and this is a somewhat small city, so you should be able to find what you need if you live near a larger one.

I removed the cardboard liner when I mounted my 10 disc CD changer inside (face mounted in cutout below door). I left the liner out and have about twice as much storage inside now. I've considered lining the inside of the fender with indoor-outdoor carpeting, but still haven't yet (some 9 years after the mod). Lon
