Update on 4th Gen Console / Firbird Pod into Camaro Project

We'll I am no where nere finished yet. I have spent most of my time wasting wood trying to build a custom install kit for my HU and EQ, but all the wood I can find thats thin enugh to do what I wanna do keeps splitting even with the finest nails I can find. I bought an install kit for a 1.5 Din Unit and bolted my HU and EQ together and its just resting in there. Gotta find a way tomount it still and flush. I had to cut the back out a little to fit me long as he!! cheap as **** Sony HU.

I had to dremel a large portion of the dash to get it to be able to mount right. I have not mounted yet, becuase I'm waiting for my console i bought on ebay last night. Pic Below. Here are some pics. They are blurry and sunny, sorry, not a photographer.

Its proped up right now, not mounted. Just trying to get a feel for what it will look like. Its propped up with one of my attempts to make a kit. Its the thinest I got to hold toether, but too thick to fit both it and the radio in the car

A striaght On view. This is also a good shot of my leather wrapped shifter handle I got from a Buick. It fits like a glove and its perfect for me. Fits my hand exactly like I want it too and is angle just right. I had a Firebird one (actually its in my book bag) and it was too loose IMO.

Sideways A good shot of the HU and EQ.

Here is the console I won of Ebay. Its from a 99 Trans Am 6 Speed Console ( its Black ). My only regrets is I had to outbid another thirdgener that READS this site (hint to pawnofsociety, get a ID so you can talk too )

Can't wait to get it finished.

if your having problems with the wood spliting drill it first, use a really small bit and i would reccomend screws but if you want to nail it make sure the nail is a size bigger then the bit you used...duh....shouldnt split

I found it in the boneyard, don't really know much about buicks, so I couldn't tell you. The seats in the car had "GS" on them, and the car was white, thats all i can remember.

Have you tried plexiglass instead of wood?

First, I made a few replies in other posts where people were talking about it.

Second, HU (1 DIN, POS Sony Crap) and EQ (.5 DIN Pyramid) into firebird pod.

Glad you are here, cuase, if I remember correctly, you flush mounted your HU, i need to try to find that post in the search, forgot about that until you posted... Get some ideas there...

Well I got good new and some bad news. The post is here. The bad news is there's no pics. I lost over 2000 pics when Webphotos done an upgrade to their server and those pics were some of them. Anything I can do to help I will. You can use anything to flushmount it in there as long as it's flat and less than 1/8" thick. You could use ABS, Tintied Plexi, or some polished aluminum which I think would be pretty cool.

Well, I finally ot the console (The guy was moving) and it is better than described! I haven't finished the project just yet though.

The pod is bolted in, but using the stock holes, the cosole sits too far up, so tommorow i will have to drill hole in the bottom of the glove ( Farther Up) so the console sita about an inch back from before. This would give me enough clearance for the pod to fit flush with the dash.

The console came out of a car with TCS (Which I am asuming to be Traction Control) so intalling the Hatch Release in that position was a sinch, thou the wires had to be lengthined (a Few minutes and a solder gun).

Everthing is all black so it looks great, escpecially with me Shifter **** and Ebrake .

I'll post pics tommorow afternoon and I'll post my progress on how its going.

As far as the Deck and EQ, I am just leavig as is in a gutted Install kit from Best Buy. They are trach anyways. Hopefully soon, I'll et a real deck which I'll flush mount and I'll have a hideaway EQ !!!!!

I set up a page on webshots, go there and check my work. I think it turned out great. I love it. In fact i didn't even have to make new holes I was able to fit the pod in after all. Although, the only problem is I over cut the dash on the driv side (I am trahing the dash anyways in the future, cuase its all cracked up) and I cannot manually shift into first, by I quess I would have to pay a price somewhere.

This is a pretty staight forward install, if you know what your doing unlike my overcut dont follow my lead on that but its pretty easy and looks great.

I didn't have to mount the pod afterall, it is very snug and will not move, and I still can use the pull out cupholder on the console!

Nice job! Good to see people doing things others have said not to bother doing. How long did it take you? I used to be stationed at Langley A.F.B.
