FYI: Dont buy cheap colored bulbs!
FYI: Dont buy cheap colored bulbs!
I wondered why the colored bulbs in Summit were advertized as "Colored glass, not painted." Well I bought some blue ones for my gauges from Oreilly's and Walmart instead. First of all, they weren't very bright to begin with. Then, over time, they faded. It's been less then six months and they're clear already. Now I have to take my dash apart again. Buy quality bulbs.

Autozone, Pepboys & Advance sell colored glass bulbs in the import section for (I think.. forgot what I paid) like $4 a 2pk
how many watts are our bulbs???
anyways i was walking by thinking about the same mod " i have a blue shifter light wich looks really cool" and i was thinking if there was anything else i can use when i looked left and saw 4watt blue malibu replacement bulbs, they have the exact same end as the ones in our cars, i know, i grabed a burnt bulb from my car and compared thier ends.
now i was wondering if we could use these, the thing with these is they have the eexact same size end, but are twice as big! so that means more light coverage.
what do you guys think, is it possible?

ok i think i can help w/ a few things here. first off, there's only 3 exterior bulb styles (in my 85 Z28 anyway, but i dont think theres any difference by model/year) aside from the headlights. First off, in the rear you have a twist in style bulb w/ the round bottom and the 2 little offset tabs on the side to lock the bulb into the socket. it should be dual filament (and have 2 contacts at the bottom). these will be the tail lights/stoplight/blinker, part number for stock is 1157 (or 2057 for a bit brighter). Then there should be a similar looking bulb for the reverse lights, except it only hase one filament and the 2 tabs are even, not offset. this a # 1156. then, on the outside edge of the tail lights there are the little mini "waffle" bulbs that function as tail/signal lights (these are also the same as all the dash bulbs) they're very tiny (its about as long as the diameter of a nickel) and have a flat base w/ wire contacts on both sides of the base. this is a # 194, also located in the sidemarker lights on the front fender. last, you have the bulbs in the front bumper. i believe these are also 2 filment and function as parkin/turn signal bulbs. they should also be an 1157 or 2057. these bulbs in the front bumper might be amber, in which case you will see an "A" or "NA" at the end of the part number. all ya gotta do is figure out the stock part # of the bulb you're lookin for and cross reference that into whatever brand of color bulb you're buying. for example, the package might say "replaces bulb #1157". as far as what 87_Camaro said, i think you are talking about a bulb number 906 (actually the part number of that style can range from 906-922 depending on wattage). the base looks similar to a 194, but the actual bulb is a lot bigger and probably wont fit where you need it to go. as far as wattage of our bulbs, it all depends on the actual part number, and this stuff i dunno off the top of my head, but as long as the base is the same, a bulb will plug in and light up. keep in mind all the part numbers ive given here are Sylvania numbers. Most of the industry goes by these numbers and uses them as a standard, but I believe it is Phillips (I know there's at least one company) that uses a different numbering system. hope this helps...
