Is it possible to replace the stock fog lights with headlights or lights that are as bright as headlights? the reason for that is my headlights are broken and it seems it would be easier and more astheticly pleasing to just change the fog lights into headlights. is there a brighter blub i can use? or anyone have any ideas? tia.
Oh well.. since not a single person replied to give me an opinion I decided to remove the fog lights... and the housing for the lights and attempt to replace it with the headlights that are already in my car. I spent a bit of time rewiring one of the lights and trying to get that thing to fit in there and I think i pretty much got it. If i finish tomorrow I will post a picture of what it looks like if anyone cares. heh.
??
What year? There are a lot of different places where the fogs go.
I personally think that it is too low for headlights. (For my car anyway)
I've seen the mod that RedRaif did with her car, but she used the stock place where the headlights went. (I think that position for headlights would be better in my opinion.)
You might want to do a search and see what she did.

LOL Perfect!
Too low!
I put my Foglights there!
If you want to put headlights on a 91 without the popups I remember someone that put clears in it's place, but again it was pre-91.
Let it be, or design clears where the existing ones are!

too late! i already put the headlights where your fogs are in that picture, after rewiring the thing i was driving to a dark area to see if they line up on the road and my water pump died. so now i gotta change my pump. the only tricky part with the headlights is mounting them.. but since my bumper is f00ked up from an accident i dont have a problem screwing the headlight into it. (i have a bra that covers the front)
i like your car.
i like your car.
Yeah but....
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh! You're gonna have such a hard time adjusting them from that low of a point. You'll end up getting pulled over.
Maybe removing the headlight assembly and creating a new one in it's place with new high/low beams would be a better plan.
(like RedRaif did)...
Or better yet......
Something to that kind of effect.
I know there is a Firebird too. That is a camaro, but you get the idea.

wait, i'm confused. why would i get pulled over? it matters where your headlights are located? that makes no sense. you would think as long as they light up the road ahead of you that its legal. I'll tell the cop to **** my **** if he tried to write me a ticket for that... unfortunely for me I live in NJ and they'll probably put 10 bullets in my chest.
It's just too low in my opinion.
You most likely will unless those lights are at least halfway up...
There are other ideas.... I saw one about using a special set of lights that actually brighten on the sides as you turn, and increase in brightness as you increase in speed. Pretty cool. Pretty sophisticated and expensive too.
There are a lot of ideas to hash around with it, I'm just saying you will most likely have trouble with only lights in that area. State inspectors are really fussy too.
There are several websites that make custom headlight designs, and I would suggest looking around and finding something that might be more to your liking, but not to the point of burning a hole in your wallet either!

Dang, that black TA looks awesome. He must have just removed the stock pop up assembly completely, huh? Looks great! I like when my lights pop up at night, tho. One of the cool features that sets us apart from Camaros.
there is a guy with a black 85- 90 style T/A in Rockford that only uses his foglights, and i've never seen him pulled over for it, they r super bright and provide plenty of light for him to see... dont know if he has the others working still or not. Personally, i love the fact that the lights pop up, as i think it looks really neat on our cars and would do everything to make sure mine work. lata

Some states have laws on headlight height (for raised 4wd, lowered cars, etc). You might want to check your local laws before you get ticketed...

Sorry I did not reply sooner. I had not looked much on this board till today.
I'm speculating here:
The reason cops could pull you over is if you have the lights aimed high enough for you to see the road, they may blind oncoming motorists.
I know there are laws about how low tail lights can be. Someone has to be able to see if you brake in front of them. So I would imagine it would be the same if you are behind them. They would need to be able to see your lights behind them.
My mod would only work on an 82-90. With the way they redesigned the headlights and front bumper, a whole different design would have to be made. I know many companies sell higher wattage for light bulbs. I have 130watt fogs myself. They were brighter that the stock headlights.
You could always build a bracket and use the earlier 4th gen Camaro style headlights. You would need a pair on each side and would have to modify your wiring. I'm not sure that anyone makes a small enough headlamp that has or accepts a high/low beam bulb like our cars have.
I know yours can be modified. I saw a 240SX with his lights modified at a show. His lights are more like yours. I can scan and post the pic this weekend if you would like. At least it can give you ideas.
Here are some shots of what I designed.
