4th gen t-top clamps in a 3rd gen...

Hey..

the number one feature I like about the 4th gens is the slots in the trunk for the t-tops.. Has anyone ever managed to fit these in a thirdgen or another alternative to the bag.. I can't count the number of trips I didn't make with the tops out because I didn't want to deal with the bag..

i cant remember were i say the pic (either in the owners manual or inside the t-top bag on the instruction stcker) but it had a pic of the t-top clamped into the rear bucket and stood vertically. Is that what you are talking about. Must be a way if they had a pic on the GM manual or bag???

So facened somehow sticking up vertically in the rear seat.. hmm.. I'll have to have a closer look at my seats.. If anyone has a pic of this.. that would be greatly appreciated..

Well I guess I might have to measure the trunks of my 00 T/A and 83 Z28. They should fit considering the part num number is the same for 82-02 center trunk pan. The problem I believ you will have however is latching in the tops. the 4th gen has smaller tops and little different clamping area. Worth a shot!

I could have sworn that the 4th gen t-tops were quite a bit smaller than the 3rd gens'. The windsheild is huge and slopes back more than the 3rd gen making the t-tops much smaller. It would be a great idea, especially if you don't have subs in the trunk well, but i am pretty sure you can't do it.

Yeha.. I pulled over today and had a closer look at a 4th gen today and I agree, I doubt our tops would fit in those slots. (And I did wait for the owner - 15 mins then gave up - to see if he would let me try to fit my ttops in his trunk)

Anyway.. does anyone else use any other means of securing thier t-tops ?? (besides the bag that is)...

i got a friend with a 4th gen t-top car, i'll test fit mine in his trunk tomoroww. If they fit, this would definately be a good idea. But im thinking they won't

All I do is take the t-tops off, put them vertically in the trunk(on the side with the molding and locks on them) and put a towel that i keep handly between the two plates of glass...I havent had a problem yet. Seems risky, but so far, so good. And I've been doing that for a year now. Hope taht helps. I am also looking to fabricate something up for the 3rd gen t-tops in the near future that is just like the 4th gen storage system...

I still have my bag, or what's left of it; but what I do for short trips is stand the tops up in the trunk, and fasten the bag straps to the hold-downs. The tops stick up higher than the strap clips and so when you tighten the straps, they hold the tops to the floor and keep them from boucning around. It's almost as fast as just tossing the tops in, and it's more secure.

a long time ago (1999) someone made a rack that you just strapped the tops to. It sat kind of high and forward, just behind the seats. I don't remember who made it, and I only saw a few pics, but it could be done with some minor fabbing.
