how ? mirrors installe don cars, i need to swap guts gtom one car to another driver side mirror if it matters
i cant see how to get at the screws in there, unless mirror face will pull off ?!

The mirror glass and the black plastic housing it's in comes off as 1 peice, stick a long slim screwdriver behind it and gently pry it out.
Use a rag between the screwdriver and mirror housing.
Then you can see the 3 screws that hold the motor in.

so i can pull off the mirror glass and the black flat deal its attached to and then i can see the motor and attaching scres in plain sight ?

just making sure so i dont hurt soemthing !

Yeah, that's how you do it, but be aware that the wires to the switch can be tough to get in & out, at least on mine they were.
'Course I've got really big hands, anything that involves getting your hand inside the door is a challenge for me.
But it's do-able, when I painted mine I totally removed both mirrors, painted them separate, & reinstalled.
Use the rag to keep from chipping the paint, stick the screwdriver into the center of the glass, & pry easy, they should come right out.
If you need, I could probably scare up some pics, but would have to email them cause I dunno where to host them since Webphotos went stupid on me.

Here's another thought: Use a wider screwdriver, in the same place, which will be between the glass housing & the motor, & twist. That should get you enough clearance to see what you're doing & pull it the rest of the way off by hand.
Hope I didn't make it sound real complicated, it's not.

The early style power mirrors have a hidden screw in the center attaching the mirror face to the motor. You HAVE to break the glass to get to the screw. But new mirror glass is available at most Auto Parts stores (such as Pep Boys) for a LOT less than the dealer. The newer style power mirror have a metal cross piece that snaps onto the motor. It is removed with a flat screwdriver as previously described. Good luck, Lon.

They list 82-85, 86, then 87-90. So yes 84 is difinitely the early style. Put a rag over it, wear eye protection and have a ball smashing it with a hammer. Just get the new replacement glass first. Lon

how much is new glass ? this is sure interesting,,,
now how am i gonna know that the one i rob off the 84 bird is gonna work for long enough to make it worth havign to buy two new glasses in order to keep both cars legal ?

I'd never seen the early style, only dealt with 87 & 88, both have the crosspeice Lonsal mentions
