Driver Side floor rott?? FIX?
Driver Side floor rott?? FIX?
Ok guys, I picked up and 88 Camaro RS T-Top car with a 2.8 for $200. I got the car home and new that the driver seat was broken. I decided to take the seat out and noticed that there was part of the floor coming up. I gutted the seats and carpet and have found quite a mess. From behind the driver seat to the pedals there is almost no floor. The rear floors and passenger floor shows signs of rust but no real holes yet. I was planning on having my buddy weld in a new floor and buying POR 15 to cover top and bottom. Have any of you dealt with anyting like this? Should I put the car out to the road and break even? Thanks for all the help.

Fix it now before your car looks like Fred Flinstone should be the owner
. Seriously, you should never put off fixing rust, it only gets worse and more difficult to fix. You could go to a junkyard and cut out a solid floor pan and have your buddy weld it in. F-bodies are so plentiful in the junkyards that I see no reason to use aftermarket sheetmetal to fix rust damage, the factory stuff will fit better. Now, if you bought this car as just a temporary ride, fixing the floor pan might not be as great as a priority for you, but swiss cheese floors will make the car pretty much unsellable as anything but a parts car.

I just had a similar (though not as bad) problem with rust on the drivers side floor pan. All along the inner rocker was completely rusted. I cut out out the rust and was left with a big, long hole. I took the cheap route and rivet/screwed in some new sheetmetal. The garage that inspected my car said that it looked good (but what do they know). Since you got the car so cheap I'd spend the money and get a whole drivers side floor pan welded in. It will be a PITA but isn't really that bad of a job. Just make sure that the inner rocker is in good shape so that you have something to weld the floor pan to. If it is too bad to save then you'll have a real project to deal with. If the inner rocker is still good - I say fix the floor and enjoy your new ride.
