Do I have 1LE brakes?

My brakes are busted & I took the car to Tire Kingdom.
So the mechanic calls me back & tells me that my car dosnt have the regular brake sistem, that its been altered. Then he calls me back & tells me that he found out that what my car has is a special package that consists on Corvette brakes. Im like what? Do you meen 1LE? But he has no idea. & that has me woried.

I looked at the calipers & here are the numbers.

Front: PBR #4281 444 #4811 893 Made in Autralia.

Back: BTR S #K332-071C 5

NEED HELP!

Looks like you might....

About the only thing that would be an issue as far as they are concerned, is that the parts will cost alot more than they would otherwise.

What are they planning on replacing?

Get that car away from Tire Kingdom ASAP and talk to us before you pay to have ANY work done on your brakes there. We can help you out and save you a LOT of money.

If they look like this, you have 1LEs:

Call him back and tell him he should be the expert and know that the car has the "Performance Package" brake system from GM as a factory option. This is very common for these cars and if he where the "expert" you trusted to take your car to, then he would know that without you telling him.

The rear brakes are the same as all 89 and on disks. Aluminum calipers with I think 11.7 inch rotors.

what about braded lines who has the best quality ones.
And do they need to be special 1LE lines or any 28-92 braded lines will fit?

Sure they did. You'll need lines specifically for 1LE.

If you want to know if your car is a true 1LE or a converted 1LE check the RPO codes

Alex,

Take a ruler (tape measure) and measure across the widest part of your rotor. If I recall correctly (and I will be corrected if not), standard rotors are apporximately 11"+ in diameter, and 1LE rotors are approximately 12"+ in diameter.

Also, if you are able to remove the rotors, take one of the fronts and one of the rears to the parts store when you go to get new rotors, so you can be sure your new rotors are the same diameter as the originals, and the rest of the parts you are getting are also correct. It would also be wise to take a set of your old front and rear pads also so you can be sure those are correct as well. Trust me, you parts counterperson will be glad you did this.

The most common thing that occurs when calipers go bad is that they hang up, which causes the inside brake pad to wear faster than the outside one. Look at the brake pads on the car now, and see if they are all the same thickness. If they are, you calipers are probably okay unless the boot/seal is torn, or if they are leaking fluid. When you install new pads/rotors, you should install new pins(bolts) and o-rings as well.

Red, thanks for all that good info. I tried measuring the rotors but I cant get an eaven number. Is somewhat more than 11 and less than 12 inches.
About the calipers, my front rotors are eaten from the back so that means my calipers are mest up like you said.
& Im positive that they are 1LEs because Ive been looking at regular front calipers & they look noting like mine. Mine have the 2 pistons like the one ed shoud me. and mine are way biger than what Ive seen around. In fact my back calipers look like the front ones from the regular setup.
About my RPO code sheet, what hapend is that when I got the car the center console was all nasty so I took it out & put a new one from Year One & my wife threw the old one away witout asking me. Since I didnt know a lot about my car at the time I never got to understand what it said when I had it & now that I do its gone.
I gues I could call Pontiac Historic Services or whaterver is called to get them, but my car couldnt be a real 1LE. Its got A/C & its a 305 automatic, I dont think it would had hapened.

If your car had been a police car with the B4C package, it could have A/C and 1LE.

Ed,
Let me know how mush you want for both of them, those are the only components I need to finish this new project.
You know how you told me about those rotors that I posted, well I kind of bought them before reading your reply. & yes now that i think about it you might be righr, if it sounds to good to be true...
But whats done its done. & as long as they las for a couple of month. till I get to fill my pockets some more.
For now I just want to get my car on the road again. You know I had just finished puting the intake back on the engine. I ported & polished from the intake manifold to de plenum. It sound awesome!!!!! but thats all I know.

I wouldn't get ceramix pads, they don't work well untill they heat up.

Thats wrong maybe if you use cheap ceramix. Napa makes real good ceramix and they work great. Shortest stopping distance of any autostore pads.

alex.....

here's a couple napa part numbers for you for brake pads. these are for front pads. please note that prices may vary. these prices are from napaonline.com

CMX7300 - cost you $129. these are the ceramix pads, best thing napa has. minimal to no dusting. lifetime guarantee.

AE7300M - cost you $129. metallic pad. good quiet braking with a lifetime guarantee.

SS7300M - cost $79.99. Mid-grade metallic pad. carries a 2 year warranty.

TS7300M - cost $19.99. Bare economy brake pad. carries a 1 year warranty.

i myself would go with the AE or the SS pads.

best of luck.
