Did I just mess up my new brake pads?

This past week I was working on the front suspension and put on new poly sway bar end links, poly bushings and a TDS wonderbar.I also did a complete front brake job.New pads ,calipers, rotors ,and repacked the bearings.
I noticed that the new rotors felt kinda greasy and the guy at the parts store said they had an oily coating on them so that they didnt rust while in storage and i should spray them down with brake cleaner to get it off.
Well the next day I relized that I forgot to clean the rotors off cause while driving the car smoke started coming from the wheel wells after a few slow stops.I asume that it was that oily film burning off the rotors from the heat. The smoke went away after a few more stops. My question is did that film on the rotors contaminate the surfaces on my new pads ?Or did that residue just burn off from the heat of stopping? Thanks.

Most likely the preservative grease has fouled up your new pads.

I would pull the pads back off and take a look at them. If they look kinda glazed over and shiney take some sand paper to them and rough them back up. The grease/oil off the rotors could have very well glazed over the pads.

It couldn't hurt to clean the rotors down with some brake clean either.

Thanks for the replies!I have monday off so I'll pull the wheels off and check the pads then.I feel so stupid having forgot to clean those rotors first!I was running outta daylight and was trying to hurry and get everything put back together and cleaned up before dinner.I hate rushing like that because you ALWAYS forget something when you rush things.
