EBC or Hawk?

I am looking into either the EBC greenstuff pads or the Hawk pads which do you prefer. I just have new rotors and reman calipers, stainless braided lines. Nothing special.

Skip the High priced so called performance pads and just Buy PF z-rated pads and get the same or better results. Also No brake dust with the z-rated pads.

Although the EBCs stop like crazy, they dust like hell. I'd go with another pad.

I bought them for the low dusting claim. This is from Tire Rack.com:

"As standard brake pads wear, brake dust is released as the friction material carbonizes at temperatures found in everyday braking. EBC Greenstuff brake pads are formulated to run cleaner because they resist carbonizing until over 1000° Fahrenheit, so in normal street driving, dusting is reduced."

I'll try and get out this week and take a pic of my front wheels...it's rediculous.

I've had both the Performance Friction Z rated pads and Hawk HP+. I like the Hawks MUCH better, both give off a 'fair' amount of dust but the Hawks actually work when they're cold. For a daily driven car I would get the Hawk HPS instead. I've also heard that the EBC don't last all that long for aggressive driving, but for normal street driving they last OK at best.

I've been happy with my Hawk HPS pads. They stop much better when cold, unlike my old Performace Friction non-z-rated pads.
No noise, not too bad on the dusting. Will be trying HP+ on my next pad change.

Thats good to know that the HPS pads work nice when cold. My non Z rated performance friction pads left me hanging on my Malibu. Hawk didn't make pads for it when I needed them and I think they're making them now.

Best strret pads money can buy- Stillen.com

Perf friction are terrible. They have no initial bite- you have to lay on them before they come on. EBC's are not much better. I have never tried the Hawks but have run Stillen pads on all of my cars for years now. Just use a set of Perf friction recently in a pinch, (Stillen was temp out of stock for a few days on the pads I needed) so a put some Perf friction on and had them right back off in about 1 week because they scared the crap out of me after being used to the Stillen pads for so long.

Oooh! Only $40 for LS1 rear pads! Yay! How are those for dusting? Would they make a 10.5" car actually brake decently? I might not have enough money to do my C4HD upgrade anymore with all the other stuff I have to take care of..

Dean,

I was thinking about the HPS for my rears for now. How would you rate those for normal street driving? I was going to get the fronts re-done in about four-to-six months.

Funny, my EBC pads actually dust less. I used to use the PF pads and they would turn my wheels black. The EBC's are definitely better based on my experience. YMMV.

HPS-?
Stillen metal matrix- 10 (scale 1-10) for street use.
EBC-8
Perf friction-5
stock pad- 1

I run Stillen pads on every car I own. I just swapped the Camaro to Wilwoods with the new setups but I need to research to see if Stillen makes pads that will fit my Wilwood calipers- If so then I am buying them.

I run the EBC greenstuffs front and back and find the performance great from cold and low fade with hard running. The dust is heavier than I expected from what I had read up on about these so thats annoying. The dust is more grey than black but it is steady and does cover my wheels almost as fast as OEM metallics. I have yet to find any pad that does not coat the weels with dust in short order so if anyone finds a winner please let us know. Aside from the dust the EBC's are great street/ mild track pads.

I have the hawks on my car right now
seems to dust quite a bit more then any other pads on any of my others cars that I have owned

but thing is all the other cars I owned had stock style pads these are the first perfoamnce style pads

thoughas far as bit when cold......... left me really handing at that first stop sign but then again that was only like 300 ft from my house and so no time to warm up at all. after that though they where fine

FYI - I just called Stillen about front brake pads for a 98-02 Camaro Z28 and they don't carry them anymore. They still have them for the rear brakes though.
