Please post procedure and tips about changing Master cylinder

I will be swapping out my stock master cylinder for the 1LE unit (J50 master cylinder). Some time ago, I upgraded to the 1LE front brakes from SSBrakes. I have never changed a master cylinder before, I would appreciate some help.

TIA

It's actually prety easy. I'd suggest emptying as much fluid from the reservoir as you can before you take it out, use a turkey baster or something like that. Loosen the two brake line nuts coming off the side and use flare nut wrenches to prevent rounding the nuts off. Those things are on there tight. The sizes are 12-14mm IIRC for the lines. Then all you need to do is remove the 2 nuts that hold the master onto the vacuum booster with a 15mm socket and it comes right off. Install is done in the reverse order, then bleed the heck out of it.

Thanks for the reply,,, I thought that it was much more involved.

The hardest thing is going to bleed the system. I will need to get help from the wife and she is not good on helping. (Maybe I can train the new puppy.)

You may already have a J50 MC on the car. If the MC has been changed at any point in time, odds are it is a J50. It became the standard replacement MC starting in '91, IIRC.

By '91, the J65 was history and all F-bodies got the J50 from the factory.
