Brake hose compatibility with brake upgrades

I just picked up an Earl's stainless steel braided hose kit (front caliper hoses and body-to-rear-axle hose) for a good price and was going to install it one of these days. I was just curious, are these lines compatible with any of the brake upgrades? LS1? C4/C4HD? I'm wanting to go with one of those setups, but was curious if these hoses will work on either of those setups.

It would be nice to know what kit you got, can't answer otherwise. Some kits are compatible, others are not.

Stock for thirdgen, non 1LE. Comes with each front caliper hose and the hose from the body to the rear axle (the one with the T-block on the end). Pn# 28A180

It will depend on the overall length of the lines and where the caliper is clocked. The C4s and LS1s put the caliper low around the 4-5 O'clock position, the C5s are around the 2-3 position. Can you measure it for us? I have 2 1LE sets in the shop and I'd like to know how long your lines are. I only recommend the 1LE spec lines for the front up grades but if your lines are long enough, they'll work. Are the caliper ends in block shape or are they the round type fitting?

Round type fitting, the braided part is just under 17", and there is about 1/2" at the end of each braided section where it connects to the brake line or caliper end.

The 1LE lines are 22 1/4" overall with the strut mounted brake line bracket fitting right in the middle at 11 1/2", they have the block type banjo caliper fitting. For comparison, I have Russel lines on my RS with C4 HDs and they BARELY fit, I have to take the line out of the strut brake line retainer bracket to get the caliper off. I'd run 1LEs if you have the choice but if they fit you'll be OK. The round banjo fitting will be fine.

Ed

PS: So the 1LE lines have about 5" extra which is good, but remember that 1LE calipers have the brake line fitting on the very bottom of the caliper; all C4s, LS1s, and C5s all have that fitting on the back side of the lower piston.

This is a useful thread. I just dropped a LS1 rear in my '84 TA (discs all around orig.), and I'm looking for an Earl's kit. Will be doing C5 fronts next week. From what semiller said, looks like the 1LE kit will work for me, as the PBR rear setup should be about the same as the ls1 rear, right?

The standard '92 front disk, drum rear Earls lines work on the front with the standard C4 upgrade. Bolted right up.

Good to know, I may just keep my currnet lines then. I have C4HD rotors laying here on my floor, and the powdercoated calipers with pads are on their way to my house as of later today. That means all I need is the hubs, brackets, and carriers for my C4HD brakes

Re: Brake hose compatibility with brake upgrades

I know this is an old thread, but is the proper part number for the 1LE lines Part #: 28A190ERL as shown here? Thanks!

Re: Brake hose compatibility with brake upgrades

Alright. Thank you! I'm wanting to get solo bleeders as well, but I can only find them for the fronts. Where could I get a set of them for a 'LT1' rear end? The 89 (90?) to 97 brakes.

The p/n for both the 1LE front and rears is 280022ERL (10mm x 1" x 27mm thread). The following is from my review: My personal experience with the Solo Bleeder is an emphatic thumbs down. Two out of four stuck in the caliper when I attempted to crack them, and as a consequence they were absolutely useless--so much so that I was forced to use pliers to remove them from the caliper, which, of course, ruined the spring. Junk, IMO.

Re: Brake hose compatibility with brake upgrades

Thanks for the review. If they are that bad, I'll probably just do it the old fashion way. Maybe I can find a better brand...
