'90 Z28 Rotor Questions

I just changed the brakes on my 1990 iroc-z28, i noticed one of my rotors is badly grooved, i want to replace it, and i found a place that will sell me a set for 60 bucks, now my question is,
A.) is there a different rotor for a standard 1990 camaro and a Z28 with the performance package,

and

B.) How hard is it to change the rotor and whats involved?

Thanks guys!

It's not too bad a job

I assume you are referring to the front rotors. I did a complete brake rebuild about 6 months ago; new rotors, inner and outer bearrings, seals, hoses, pads and calipers. I was able to take my time and do it in an afternoon. I would have finished sooner, but one of the bearings did not match the look up results at O'rielly's. It took me a while to get the correct bearing located.

As far as the high performance option, that is limited to the folks with 1-LE brake set ups ( as far as I know). I belive that the z28 and RS models have the same brake set up (except the 1-LE folks). If your not sure what you have, measure the diameter of the rotors. I think the Z28 and RS models came standard with a 10 inch diameter and the 1-LE are like 12 inch (something like that).

BTW.. if you had those pads on for any length of time on bad rotors, I would replace the pads when I get the new rotors (but that's just me)

Hope this helps

im planning on getting the rotors within the next couple of weeks, i'll check the pads to see if they look like theyve taken any serious wear or damage, even if they dont look like they have any damage should i still replace them?

I would

If the old rotors have grooves on them, then the pads will most likely have the same grooves embedded on them, which could possibly cause brake vibration, or cause the rotor to wear prematurely. For the time and money you are about to spend, I would not take any chances on the old pads... but that my

Good luck dude

The pads are what grooved your rotor to begin with. It's called crystallization and it means the "lubricant" in the pads has burned off leaving a very hard metallic surface which eats rotors. You should also check your wheel cylinder boots for any fluid (I bet the are either leaking or frozen) and replace your calipers as they are binding. Either one (or both) will cause this problem.
